Parkrun newbie here
I only started running from the C25K programme at the beginning of this year, having seen that mentioned in the HEALTH section.
I was encouraged by a mate, whilst I was in the UK, to try a Parkrun. I went to Moors Valley in Dorset.
It was a hot morning, but, spurred on by some pretty ladies in front of me to keep up with, I managed a PB of 28:10
I envy those who after a year off can manage sub 25:00

I used to too, but it will come with the right training and commitment. I can run sub 25 but it isn't 'easy' and certainly couldn't after a year off! I've only been running under a year and current PB is 23mins 30 I only started running from the C25K programme at the beginning of this year, having seen that mentioned in the HEALTH section.

I should have said, although I had a year off from running I keep fairly active walking the dog and also play badminton which helps.
Going for a run tonight, going to miss parkrun this week though as have a wedding to go to, bit gutted! Will try and get a longer run in on Sunday instead.
Going to start doing 1 shorter run per week at higher pace and 1 longer run at slower pace to try and help better my parkrun times.
Also been on a diet. Started at 14st 10lb but managed to lose 4lb this week so now 14st 6lb. I want to get down to 13st as I think this will also be a big help to lowering my times.

I'm not a great runner, but have done a few 10k's and did my first half marathon earlier this year. I've recently started running the Cardiff parkrun, and I'm going to try and stick to every week as part of my training as my 'fast' run.
My times aren't particularly fast, with my best time probably coming last week at just under 26 minutes. Hoping to get closer to 25 minutes over the next few weeks.
I've got a 10k coming up in around four weeks ago, so again going to try and beat my previous times (around 56 mins I think).
Hopefully this will help me get a sub 2 hour half! (Not great compared to some I know, but a nice target for me).

I seem to have plateaued at around 22:30, which has been roughly my time at the last three parkruns. Started in March this year with a 27.30 and have become used to taking large slices off my PB every week, but seem to have hit a wall now
Was on the warm side today though...
That's a fantastic effort. My PB on my watch is 23:30 but I don't think as quick as that on a park run. I've been running about 8/9 months Was on the warm side today though...
Have you been training much to get that time?

Thanks! I've been doing about 20k per week including the parkrun. In the week I usually run a hilly course just over 5k every other day, but probably need to increase the distance a bit as I'm still struggling for pace sometimes at the end of the (flat) parkrun course.Have you been training much to get that time?
Have to keep reminding myself that I'm doing it to improve my general fitness rather than chase times, but it is addictive

Went to a memorial run at Perry Hall this morning in honour of my friend that passed away from a heart attack. Rather bitter-sweet where he was the one that provided the defibrillator training to the core team, yet couldn't be saved after he finished his triathlon last week.
What age was he?Going while you're doing what you love, pretty good way to go, also a memorial run is nice.

He pushed too hard?
Unknown right now. His father died of a heart attack at 50, so a family history was there. I was speaking to a cardiologist friend of mine and he pointed out that it could have even been as simple as a deficiency/imbalance in electrolytes that can affect the electrics of the heart.Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
