F f f f f f flippin heck!
Just seen on Twitter that Voortrekker Monument in SA had their last event today - moving to a new venue - and had over 3000 people (no, I haven't typed an extra 0 by mistake!)
I wonder how long their finish funnel was!
False alarm, they must have been getting over excited when they tweeted this morning....it was actually only 2092 Just seen on Twitter that Voortrekker Monument in SA had their last event today - moving to a new venue - and had over 3000 people (no, I haven't typed an extra 0 by mistake!)

Narrowly avoided a mass pile up today at the start as somebody ahead was stood still trying to get their stopwatch going! I was next to the 26 minute pacer but got properly caught up, ended up behind the 31 pacer before I'd even got going and spent over a mile trying to catch the 26 back up through the crowd.
Never appreciated how much the field spread has an impact on time before today, would have been an easy PB if I had used that effort catching the pacer to press on a bit.
One of the hazards of the popularity of parkrun I guess!

One of our usually very quick guys is recovering from an injury, so last week he started right at the back to ensure he started slowly...and finished second in a field of 540 The 600 club started today, second member will be a while though.
My junior nemesis let on that he has been studying my strava plots to work out where he could get ahead of me so this morning he decided to go for the sprint start option which took me off guard.
Took me two and a bit miles to claw back the difference before I finally got past him so his ambition to finish in front of me rolls over to another week.
We were going for it all the way round as both posted course best finish times of 19:47 and 19:57 so, whilst it is a bit of fun, it's certainly helping to get the times down. Would be nice to have a slightly easier week sometimes though

Yip!Anther volunteer today, I fancy that purple tee.
Something I noticed, there has bene a surge in walkers. Not people who come to run, dressed to run and can't. People who come dressed to walk. Not really seen that in such numbers before.

For the slower people who complain it's an advantage to be near the front, it just shows that starting from the back doesn't neccessarily stuff your chances!RizzoTheRat said:

Darren Wood has done 600 runs and 363 volunteerings - lots were set up and breakdown, but a scattering of non running jobs, probably as many as lots of people do.
His first run was Bushy's second week - he must be pissed off that he didn't go to week 1

parkrun ambassador stage one interview complete. It's being sent up the chain for 'approval' with the aim of being rubber stamped in a few weeks.
Then I will get assigned an ambassador mentor to explain all the details. The patch is the local adult and junior events within a 20min(ish) drive. Expected to visit them every 6 months to say hello and check they are doing it the 'parkrun way' and also help new events get organised and hand holding during the test and go live stages.

Voluntary role. Difficult to say what the workload will be until you get given your events but its probably a few evenings a week rather than all your spare time.
The local events are all well established with experienced teams so I imagine most of the time will be getting involved with the creation of the new events. Of the new events. I know of one junior one (that I have one eye on anyway) and one adult one that is all rubber stamped and just needs to hold its test event before getting the green light.
