Personally I've had some of my best results with just coffee and water. Not because it's a recipe for success, just because it's what I'm used to - I'll often do 2-3 hour runs on an empty stomach first thing without issue.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And if it is broke aim for something that's normal to you but light.
Pretty much. I like to run fasted.
Just make sure you fuelled and had a good night's sleep the evening before.

My local event, Cannon Hill, will soon have parking charges enforced upon it by the council of £2 for up to 4 hours and £3 all day, with a review of practices to be reviewed after 6 months.

Do any of your home events have parking charges, and did it affect runner and volunteer numbers? Doesn't look like there's a chance for a parkrunner deal to be cut, where we've been swept up along with peak time users.

Our event is in a local country park and all the in park parking has a charge (£1.50 for 1h, £4+ after that).

They have an arrangement in that if you display a spare barcode next to the parking ticket then you can pay for 1h but stay for 2. This allows you time to do the event then visit the cafe afterwards. There is also an annual pass for £49 a year that you can use anytime. We also have 10 free parking on a Saturday morning passes for people who volunteer to do setup as an incentive to get them there and save £4 each time.

People who come to the event who don't want to pay the parking park in one of the local residential streets instead which is totally out of the events (and parks) control.

The charges have been there for as long as I can remember and just goes with the territory. Some people don't mind as the revenue goes back to the park that we use, some people buy the annual pass so they can visit any time and some people just park outside and walk in.

Sometimes the park rangers check for tickets whilst the event is on then report that some people have not paid. Before the event starts we mention the parking as part of the briefing so people know the score and I have told the rangers that they should enforce their parking policy (fine if no ticket) to get the message across. Their response is that they don't want to do that as it will put people off coming to the park rolleyes

I'd be surprised if it made much difference, a few might sto driving there, but it could encourage car sharing, walking, cycling. £2 isn't much to pay, cheaper than the gym or entering a race so I guess most who need to drive will just pay it.

Looking at your attendances (typically 600) reducing number would be good wouldn't it!

Having spoken with a few friends, most look like they'll suck it up to run, but all of them vehemently said they would not pay to volunteer and not run. One chap, who volunteers more often than he runs, said he couldn't as a single parent afford to pay for a babysitter, a coffee and parking, so would be defecting to his next nearest event (where £2 buys 3x coffees!) Still no word on whether there'll be some sort of arrangement for volunteers at the very least.

Went to one recently, but I can't remember where, that had a similar system but free. It was something like Saturday morning parking charges started at 9, but if you had a barcode in the window you were ok without a ticket until 10. Seemed like a fairly sensible idea as there were very few non-parkrunner there so they're not lowing out on other trade, and the café makes a fair bit out of them.

Llyn Lech Owain has parking charges and remains popular, despite there being both Swansea and Llanelli Coast close by. I would expect a dip in numbers and then for things to balance out close to the normal turnout.

Issues will be if the council get over-zealous, or put pressure on the RDs to monitor parking, which of course they shouldn't/won't and this creates friction. Assuming everyone behaves like adults, I think it'll be fine.

Can you get added in to the results later if you've come up as 'Unknown'? I had both my barcode and finishing token scanned but remember at the time thinking that my barcode wasn't scanned properly (I didn't hear a beep, but then couldn't remember if it beeps for that bit).

I remembered my finishing position but there is no time listed, I've got a ball park based on the finishers ahead and behind, but would love an official time.

Gutted as it was a special challenge for me to run to parkrun from home (4 miles), complete parkrun quicker than my first ever run/parkrun (which was April last year, 34:11) and run home again in less than 1:45. I know my total was 1:41, but haven't got a parkrun time!

Unfortunately I don't think it'll work in that situation. I volunteered a week or so ago and was writing the barcode numbers and positions down when the scanner didn't work.

If it didn't scan and it wasn't taken by hand afterwards I don't think it'll appear.

The volunteers should point you in the direction of the 'scribe' if it didn't scan but if they don't hear it or know (or if the parkrun is short on volunteers/doesn't have 'scribe') it might have been missed. Next time if you think it's happened look for someone with a clipboard by the scanners and hopefully they're the right person to take it by hand!

The results going back to the first event can be amended at any time. Email the event with your details, date, etc and they will probably add you.

We get a few emails each week from people who think they have scanned but there was an issue with the scanner, the scanner did it the wrong way round, etc. It's a quick fix to add them.

PB today at my home event (Preston Park), 22.21 and first V60, amazingly still getting faster after nearly 8 years of parkrunning.

Every time I get a PB I think I will be able to retire happily on that but once I get home I start to wonder if I can get sub the next minute and retire on that!

Last year I was happy with sub 23, I'm now wondering if I should go for sub 22!

(and I've leapfrogged Cybertronian in the PH league wink ) Yeh, I know it's not a race biggrin

In case anyone didn’t know, the Parkrun app is pretty handy for tracking progress.

Been meaning to do a parkrun for a while now, I'm registered, do I just turn up and run? How much before the start time should I arrive? Anything else worth knowing?

Just turn up on the day, with your barcode
There is a briefing before each run for first timers.
If you’re there by say 0845, you’ll be fine,
Enjoy !

Ensure you've got your barcode printed, they don't accept mobile phone screen images or anything like that. I laminate mine.
The first time I go to a new run I get there about 25 mins early. They announce a new runners to that location/new parkrunner briefing where they'll give an overview of the procedure and the route and that's about it.

In case you don't know, you don't need your barcode till the end. So start with everyone else, when you finish you go through the finish line and will be handed a small barcode (Like a Tesco clubcard thing) Then you can relax, get your breath or whatever, then find the people doing the scanning, show them your printed barcode and then give them back their barcode that they gave you at the finish.

Go home and wait for your result to be emailed to you....(I normally go home via McDonalds wink )

Made it along to my local parkrun today (Stretford). Lot of people there! Managed 29 minutes on my Garmin, still waiting for official time. Not a bad time, given my lack of running recently.
