I was over in Moscow for work last week; and arranged my travel to fit in the Gorky Park Parkrun on Saturday. Lovely route along the side of the Moscow River and met some fellow Scottish Parkrunners. However the results still not up, no comments on the FB page or the Russki equivalent (VK.com). The lack of a Russian flag on my Challenges page is somewhat twisting my mellow. irked

Did Kraków parkrun at the weekend. Good flat and fast course. They even managed to arrange some Scottish weather for us, went from sunny and 27 degrees to 12 degrees and rain on Saturday morning. Couldn't understand a word of the pre run brief either ha.
The event is only a 15 min walk from the city centre, so perfect if you’re over on holiday.

JUst realised if I hit every regular PR left this year, I can get my purple 25 and my black 100

Off to Bushy on Saturday (14th birthday) - some of my friends have never been so we decided to have a trip. First chance to wear my 250 shirt smile

Pheasantry cafe for coffee and an expensive bacon butty afterwards!!

Co incidentally I listened again to the parkrun show when they were talking about plans for the 10th and they were guessing how many would be there - they thought it might be very busy, maybe over 1000, there were actually over 1700! I don't think there will be quite as many this year as they aren't making a big thing of it like they did with the 10th.

I remember running Bushy Park when it was the only event and there were 300 ish people. Despite that the winning time was always quick as in those days it was more club runners than today. I once ran 17:46 at Bushy and finished 29th!!

Expect that there will be 1000+ on Saturday and it's still a great event. I must go back and run it again at some point

It is over 1000 most weeks at Bushy.

Usually won with a 15 or something - that vegan guy I know has won bushy many many times.

Anyone see this article by the Guardian? One of my local events is Ruchill which got an interesting description laugh. They must think it’s pretty grim up here in Glasgow.

I'm gradually getting the time down, ran 28:25 last week and was fairly close last Saturday.

One thing that stuck out for me was that the last finisher was the age graded "winner" with their 46:19 graded at 85.39% in the VW90-94 category.

That's pretty impressive.

My local parkrun only recently had a VM85 record set, and another regular turns 85 fairly soon so he's in training to try and take the record biggrin They've both been mates for decades so I can see it turning it in to a long term, but good natured, rivalry biggrin

We had a VM75 run 25:23 this week.

I though that was impressive til I realised it's only 75% age grade, so someone's done about 19.02 as a VM75 redface

yikes I know a 60 year old who does sub 20 without effort and a 54 year old who ran 2:08 for 800m and ran 17:45 at parkrun last week, but thats not in the 94% age grade

There does seem to be some rivalry going on in the older age cats, my friend who set the VM80 record at Bevendean (because he was the first VM80 to run there!) said he didn't expect it to last long because there's a guy he's competed against since the 50s who will come and grab it. He did 42 mins on a hilly course just after finishing chemo and thought his time was rubbish rolleyes .

I think it's great that the competitiveness is still there so many years on, hopefully I'll still be able to do it when I'm 80 although all the records will have been well and truly set by then unless I can go to week 1 of an event and there's no-one else my age there!

Minor bit of tourism this week with a jaunt up to Ellon (Aberdeenshire, about 20miles north of Aberdeen). Got an overall PB which was pleasing. Nice course they have there.

Same for me. Travelled to Perry Hall for their 200th run, nice course and was 25secs outside of my parkrun PB. Suprising with how tired my legs felt.

Hi all. As a bit of a newboy to PH I did wonder whether I should chip in on an established forum thread, but hey nothing ventured…

Last Saturday I did my first ever Parkrun (Stratford-upon-Avon).
I’m effectively 2 weeks into the Couch-to-5k plan, having never run before in my life (I’m 51!).

Used to do a lot of cycling in my teens/early 20’s, and then spent 20 years being a lard-arsed counsultant, travelling the world drinking beer and eating crap! Took up cycling again in my 40’s; did a few challenges and 2 years doing time-trialling with my local club before a knee injury forced me to quit.

Anyway, my wife took up the C25K challenge a few weeks back, did her first Parkrun 4 weeks ago and encouraged me to give it a try. I’m glad I did now.

I may not set the world alight with my time (39:37) but the fact I finished it, and didn’t die of heart failure in the process, means I should keep at it.

Agreed - well done. It gets a bit addictive, especially if there's someone else in the house who's in to it!

Well done.
You're in the sweetspot at the moment where you will carve minutes off of your best time for a while as you progress through the C25K. Enjoy every pb you get smile
