Went for a curry last night, got in late, woke up early, ran nearly a course PB!

I think it's the combination of lots of carbs and good hydration and refueling in the morning that helped, and not the desperate need to find a toilet...

Blackhill today was savage amusement, 0.5 degrees c according to the car, about 2 inches of snow (yes snow in october) and still recovering from flu, just over 25 minutes for me, I think my second slowest ever, the only slower one was wearing fancy dress i think.

Got to parkrun and was rewarded with the 27 minute pacer bib being thrust my direction wobble

Nothing like helping a fellow parkrunner (or 3) reaching a PB biggrin

Had another crack at Whinlatter today, came in at 24.12, and seventh finisher. A bit slower than my PB there, but I’m full of cold and suffering from shin splints in my left leg, so good enough.

It’s a tough one though, I’m four minutes slower there than at my local run in Huddersfield.

T6 - you legend. Love pacers that are slightly quicker!

I went to Henley Woods Oswestry this weekend, to get my '2' for my wilson index, West for the compass challenge and another in the west Midlands Region.

Really nice run although the start is a bit manic, and due to a narrow path I slipped and went crashing to the ground. Would reconmend wearing trail shoes when wet!

Llyn Lech Owain for me again. Love that course. Arrived a bit late, so my warm-up was running to the loo, then chasing after the field who'd walked off to the start. Caught the back and ran through for 9th and 21.23 but my left calf is unhappy with sub 7 minute mileing with no warm-up. I really must do some touristing, but the few I regularly attend are great too, so it's hard to spread my wings.

After scraping off a thick layer of ice on Saturday, i was back at Stratford-upon-Avon for my 2nd Parkrun.

Given how cold it was I decided to do a warm-up and did a brisk walk around the main field 5 mins before the start.
This seemed to go well as i finished up with 37:35, almost 2 mins quicker than first time out.

Still not managed to run for the whole duration, but as i am only 1/2 way through the C25K programme I'm sure it will come eventually.

Worryingly, no complaints from the joints/legs/body the day after - this is becoming surprisingly addictive!

Jersey on Saturday, leaving me with only a trip to Poland to do if I want to do the parkrun alphabet.

Rumour has it there might be an X starting in Germany at some point, and on the current parkrun map would be about the closest one to me at only 2 hours away frown

Did Whistler over the summer. Pretty low key with about 30 people max doing it. The day we did it the course was slightly modified from usual: uphill for the first 2k, then rolls for 500m or so to the dead turn, then reverse that course back to the start line. All on a loose surface. The first 2k certainly gets the lungs going! Brits (including two on a "running holiday"!) swept the podium when I did it, and given the course and the fact I'd only run once in the previous 6 months I was pretty happy with a time in the 22s. Well worth doing if you're there in the summer.

Having the odd bear in the location can certainly make you run faster wink

I'm just trying to get myself back up to the 10km+ I used to be able to run at a decent pace - for a 48 y.o. >100kg fella.
Perhaps due to ongoing medical treatment, which meant my weight crept up by 7kg, added to my slower split times in the last year or so, so I restarted the 10km Trainer App at Week 9 just over a week ago.
I went out at lunchtime today and did the required "5min walk, 15min run, 1min walk (x3)", and surprisingly covered 9km. I'm feeling pretty good now, maybe as it was so cold outside today ("real feel" was -3C or so), and it has been up to 23C in the last week or so. I seem to prefer running in cold weather - even snow! smile

Going a bit backwards at the mo'

Managed 25.03 a few weeks back, but dropped a handful of seconds each week then tried too hard too early today and blew up on the last hill. frown for 25.53.

You might recall this was all about weight loss and although I haven't put anything back on, I can definitely feel the effect of eating crap for the last 10 days (busy at work then a few days away). Back to the healthy diet for me.

Don't beat yourself up or feel bad. Fitness is not linear and a lot of things can effect how quickly you run one day to another. Sometimes I feel like I am going backwards then all of a sudden I pull out a quick run / cycle from no where. It's really a funny old thing but what does work is consistency. Clean eating helps you to breathe easier but I am not terribly good at that either

Can't get both the purple and the black this year, it's one or t'other.
Not sure which to plump for.

Why not? There are plenty of volunteer roles that also allow you to run.

Clocked up number 50 yesterday morning, with a PB to boot! Had a hangover (at one point SWMBO thought I wasn't going to get out of bed), which makes that even better...

Nice work. I’ve had a few surprisingly quick runs whilst a bit hungover. Wonder why? Maybe it’s knowing that the run is going to suck so you just get on with it ha.

Six months on any "my" juniors finally feels established. I'm now RDing occasionally and focusing on bigger stuff like training and amenities.

I'll be getting my 50 next year at some point, but I'm aiming to get my 25 first. Feels like a nice R:V ratio of about 2:1.
