I think the halfway point is a bit psychological, I wanted to stop 3 or 4 times in the final stint with really bad pains in various places but managed to push through. Normally a pain would pop up, I'd run for 200metres then it would vanish and something else would start hurting, sort of like agony whack-a-mole
I have had exactly this. I stopped and walked on a Parkrun back in the summer, even though looking back I was well within my physical limits. The trouble was that it was very hot and my mind started to wander and think about how much cooler it'd be if I stopped, and how walkers in the park looked so relaxed etc. Before long I'd had enough and started walking.
I think we all have that voice in our head telling us to stop sometimes, you just got to fight it and push on.
My problem was that I allowed the thoughts to build and develop. When you learn to meditate, you do this thing where you acknowledge a thought, but dismiss it straight away and don’t let it grow - I guess that’s the way to deal with those thoughts when running if they ever arrive. Thankfully I like running hard and very rarely get this desire to stop. I have had exactly this. YrpI have huge debates going on in my head, sometimes I 'wake up' and realise I've gone a mile as...whomever was chatting to each other had stopped.
makes me think of this

Only this Thursday. Each country gets to pick their extra day, UK does Christmas, Germany does unification day.
Interesting as that theoretically bump up the max you can do in one year by 1. Number chasers are not going to be pleased.Number chasers are very pleased, there's a "parkrun world tourists" group on Facebook and quite a few of them seem to be flying to Germany for one night just to get an extra parkrun.
Quite a few other countries do Christmas though so not as many extra days add there are countries.

I know at least half a dozen people who've gone to Germany so there must be quite a lot in total.
My exotic travelling is only going as far as Bushy on Saturday - I guess numbers will be a bit mental, was 1700 for the 10th birthday so probably more this time as parkrun was much less well known.
My excuse is a family party nearby later in the day so may as well make the trip worthwhile!

I've only done our local Parkrun... I set myself a target time two years ago that I still haven't beaten, despite doing gym, intervals and tempo stuff, plus my long run's up from 7/8km to 15km now. I'm tempted to find a tarmac Parkrun to help me out get that time - ours is compacted gravel with puddles, big stones etc and I'm sure it must be slower than a smooth tarmac course.
Ultimate tourist challenge? Parkrun is coming to.... the Falkland islands.

After discussions with my physio that helped me through a previous back problem and with the fitness instructor I do twice weekly "bootcamp" sessions with, we've come to the conclusion that parkrun has made me catch the "shin splints".
Only done two runs so far, recovery seems to be about two weeks and it's hampering my ability to do the aforementioned bootcamp stuff. I'm going to attack this from two directions:
1- Make sure my generic "training" trainers are OK for my running
2- Perhaps alter my parkrun strategy a bit, and look into doing some more interval based stuff. Similar to the couch to 5k and try to build up over the winter.
Any additional thoughts/recommendations?

Took my dog to my local run last sat - was hoping to be first (dog) but got beat into 3rd (21.03)
His first attempt so hoping next time will be better! Was funny as there are people in all the famcy pants cani cross harnesses with huskys and big hound dogs......yet the 3 quick dogs where all little yappy things on regular leads! (including my little Jack Rus)

You could try Furman: https://t3triteam.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/furm...Only done two runs so far, recovery seems to be about two weeks and it's hampering my ability to do the aforementioned bootcamp stuff. I'm going to attack this from two directions:

Furman takes the classic three key runs and only does those, whilst encouraging cross training on other days. Build up to it gradually though, don't just suddenly start it.
