I missed it as did my own DIY parkrun. Worth doing next week? Not a bad idea to put something on at 9 to try and discourage people from going and running around the park anyway.
There was a proof of concept for the quiz on Thursday eve for ambassadors, try try the concept - that was funny with Tom Williams pasting the questions into Slack and someone pointing out that he was pasting the answers as well!
I went down to our park in case anyone hadn't heard we were cancelled and to make sure no one did a mass non parkrun at 9 - lots of people running but only in ones and twos. Will go for a run tomorrow.
Long interview with Tom n Free Weekly Timed yesterday and Danny interviewed Nick Pearson today for With Me Now pod next week.

No surprise in today's announcement that we're all cancelled until at least the end of April.
The good news is that working from home makes it easy to do an hour lunchtime session, in daylight and at the moment, sunlight! so I might be a bit closer to my PB pace by the end of all this!

Realistically it'll be longer than that though. All gatherings and events here (Netherlands) on hold until at least 1 June, I wouldn't expect the UK to lift it before then either.
Our core team are planning an online drinks night to keep in touch
Went out for a lunchtime 5k yesterday and it seems to be nice and quiet along the promenade and beach, several people out but in 1s and 2s so easy to keep our distance. I might end up doing more running with these restrictions than if I was in the office all week

This weeks quiz moved back to 9am Saturday, so will go with breakfast in bed and not wine o'clock as it was last week!

My favourite parkrun comment from the week was from one of our RDs who said that he had to hold back his inner funnel manager and not shout 'Keep moving, close the gaps up' when queueing outside Sainsburys.

3 weeks ago today I as one of 350+ at my local Parkrun. Happy days. I bet 500 turn up at the next one!
I’ve kept up my run every day challenge, average around 40 miles a week
Never seen so many out & about TBH, doing the government sanctioned exercise.
I’ve taken to running later in the evening when it’s quieter, the other day made over 2 miles in the road before I saw first car!

New registrations for parkrun are still happening in spite of no events taking place and other restrictions.
I wonder what effect this pandemic will have on the total parkrun numbers. Will we see an increase and leapfrog over the trajectory we originally would have been on, or a downturn before stabilising?

HHmmm! not sure what the effect will be when we can re-start.
I'm certain that the hard core who normally parkrun every week will all be there but I don't know if the ones who are there now and then will come back immediately. I think we'll prepare for big numbers just in case. Currently we think 500 is a quiet week and 600 is about normal so we'll be prepared for 750 so we aren't swamped.
I've prepared tokens up to 1080 ready for Christmas, that should be enough!

As a sort of parkrun spin off, we do a timed mile once a month, so this month we did it virtually, everyone ran a mile near home and we collated the results, so I've had a week of speed work to try and get a sort of decent time - still a minute off PB, so tomorrow doing a whole 5k might feel like a long way, but will give it a go!
Will go at 9.30 or 10 after the parkrun quiz, PB last week of 11/15, with some guesses!

I've been hosting a video chat with several parkrun friends from my local event to try and recreate the hour that we used to spend in the cafe after each run.
We try and have a parkrun related topic of discussion for each week to try and keep it interesting; 15 minutes of general catch-up and then 45 minutes about the parkrun discussion topic.
I want to try and get a bank of topic ideas together to call upon - can anybody come up with any that I can add to the list? So far, we've discussed the following:
- toughest parkrun courses we've each completed
- parkrun PBs and podium finishes
- our first ever experience of parkrun
- events we would each like to visit in the future, and why

In other news anyone in a club that has a 5km (virtual) league? Our local running club has one and its surprisingly fun and competitive. The rules are fairly straightforward (circuit or 2.5km there/back, no cannicross) and winners are based on M/F age groups. Runs need to be recorded on Strava, or equivalent.
Happy with my M 45-50 run of 18:57 (3:47/km) today, but will need to try harder.
Thinking about how parkrun restarts whilst out on my 5k at 7am this morning (it was lovely, saw nobody!)
Given that they are by their very nature events which have no capacity or set numbers it's a tricky one, at least with race events (I'm thinking trail ones) they could maybe start up with very restricted numbers at some point when restrictions ease.
The arguments around football only involve 22 guys on a reasonably big field, so I can't see 300+ people on narrow (public) footpaths being viable any time soon. When restrictions lift it doesn't mean we are all automatically immune, so I'd be amazed if turnout is actually near the records numbers that many are suggesting.
Personally I'll continue running as always but if anything I've developed an even deeper appreciation of running alone in the middle of nowhere, so I won't be taking any unnecessary risks doing it with 450 people (bumping shoulders, spitting etc).

There would be no practical way to limit numbers. What are you going to do, turn people away and how would you determine what the limit was?
How are you going to stop them clustering at the finish funnel, are they going to scan themselves, what about courses with laps and/or narrow sections where people pass each other, etc, etc.
From an ED point of view it would be a massive headache.

At the last parkrun.. while chatting to some club mates, I said i’d see that at the next one in the autumn. It was laughed off as bring too pessimistic . Looks like it was very optimistic !
Still doing a fair few miles, LSD, run every day this year .
When some races are looking likely i’d better do some speed work ..
