We had a wonderful event at Mole Valley this morning. I was overrun with volunteers, the sun shone, the vineyard was looking amazing and 255 people had a lovely time. I love parkrun I really do.

A bit of tourism next weekend for us. Coed Cefn Pwll Du. The first km looks a bit steep yikes
Off to Blackpool are you then? There's lovely...

Marconi made some early long range transmissions from Cefn Du, but a little investigation shows that was at the other end of Wales.

28:47 today, happy with that. I suspect that further gains will be much smaller.
28:39 today, went out to fast and suffered later on, but it's still a PB

Nice work. I did a bit of touring and did “Edinburgh’s best parkrun” at Portobello. Nice enough course but a lapped.

Shaved a minute off, 27:39 today.

At this rate of improvement, I'll have a new world record by the end of the year smile

Good work! Same time as me (within 3 seconds) from this morning.

Noticed your profile says Derby - which run did you go to? I went to Conkers this morning to try a new one.

I’m finally in parkrun pb form after 4 years since I ran 26.08

I ran 25.07 last night at a local race and 24.43 on my treadmill so next weekend it’s time to go for it :-)

I've had a cold all week and not been doing any running other than parkruns for a couple of weeks. Crazy slow today, really need to get back in to run commuting.

Post lockdown PB today smile 28:08, first run in VM65-69, just need to get 12 secs off to get to 60% age grade. (I used to be able to do 70% but not any morefrown )

PS, Nice to bump into Cybertronian by pure co-incidence at Beacon parkrun Lichfield last week (and I think MadBadger was on the Ambassadors call with HQ on Thursday night??? )

I was a few seconds slower this week, first time ever that I didn't get a PB.

A long walk on Thursday and red wine on Friday evening didn't help.

There is an item I have seen on FB that all Parkrun events in France could be stopped.
It is related to new legal advice about the need for runners to have medical certificates
The local team are trying to find a solution

  • ***
As people living in France, or those who have travelled to the country to take part in an event such as the Paris Marathon will be aware, there is a general requirement to obtain a formal medical certificate from a doctor in order to take part in most sporting activities.

parkrun has never requested a medical certificate, partly because we pride ourselves on being a community event, partly because operationally we cannot do so in a meaningful way and, most importantly because we believe that doing so creates an additional barrier for those wishing to take part in free, inclusive physical activity.

Unfortunately, despite extensive consultation, including with French legal advisors, we do not currently have sufficient assurance that we are able to fully comply with French legal obligations, thus putting the organisation at risk should a serious incident occur at one of our events.

Whilst we continue to work hard to try and resolve these issues, and to receive the assurance we need that the parkrun delivery model is acceptable to the French authorities, we have taken the decision to suspend our existing events across the country.

We know that this decision will be extremely disappointing to everyone involved with parkrun France, and to the many parkrunners who regularly participate at the French events, or who were perhaps planning on visiting an event in the near future.

We will now redouble our efforts to get a quick resolution to this issue and will post further updates here whenever they are available.

You can always meet as usual on Saturday morning at 9am at the usual place to register a (not)parkrun while waiting for the resolution of this imbroglio.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and ongoing support.

Never underestimate the capacity for French bureaucracy to get in the way of stuff

I wonder how much this; "you can always meet as usual on Saturday morning at 9am at the usual place to register a (not)parkrun while waiting for the resolution of this imbroglio" will compensate. French bureaucracy + lawyers is always going to be a lot of time spent achieving nothing.

In other news, I was down in Cornwall last weekend and did the Eden Project ParkRun, which i would recommend. It's quite a hilly course as you're essentially running up and down the side of a quarry, but you get a great view while you're at it. I'm not sure the course distance is correct though as my watch measured it at 4.85km. Whilst that could be an error with the watch GPS as to the best of my knowledge GPS measures longitude / latitude more accurately than altitude, the fact that i matched my previous PB set on a flat course with a final km much faster than the previous two, i think the distance is ineed a bit short. Which is fine by me smile

Being in the Eden Project there's plenty of parking, toilets at the start and finish line and a cafe with indoor and outdoor seating at the finish. A great run if anyone is thinking about it.

I ran the inaugural Holyrood parkrun last weekend, very nice views once you've completed the first 1.5k, all uphill! As a positive, what goes up must come down, my 4th km was my fastest in a long time!
