Hi. I have just completed my local ParkRun in 21:47, 67.71%. I’m 50. Still a way off my PB of 21:04 from 5 years ago.
Inactivity during lockdown saw me pile on the weight but I’m nearing the end of a 75 day diet and exercise plan which has helped me shed the pounds and build strength.
I’ve now completed 287 ParkRuns, all of them at Rushcliffe (Nottingham). I’d be interested to see a table of those who have completed ParkRuns at the same venue.
There is a guy from Lodz parkrun who has completed every single one of the 501 events they have done. Inactivity during lockdown saw me pile on the weight but I’m nearing the end of a 75 day diet and exercise plan which has helped me shed the pounds and build strength.

You are way ahead of me. 86 in total, 76 at my regular (Pomphrey Hill).
It would be a lot more but only 4 runs between post Covid restart date and Feb this year due to circumstances beyond my control.
My other venues go 6 visits, then 3 then 1
We've got quite a few in and around Norwich:It would be a lot more but only 4 runs between post Covid restart date and Feb this year due to circumstances beyond my control.

So I tend to spread the love a bit. I've done 52 runs and my top three go 22,9,6 with the 6 being my new favourite so will catch the others up this year I expect!
Blickling did their alternate route this weekend for their 400th event - National Trust only allow them to run it 5 times a year (the normal route is all on accessible paths so I'm guessing the alternate route wouldn't hold up as well) - one lap deep into the woods and parkland around the estate which is a really nice alternative.
The winner got a time of 15:42 which was the 10th quickest parkrun this weekend - a massive achievement for an offroad route that has this bugger of a hill

Gradient hits 9% for about 50m.

Great to meet you Chris. Good luck with the back recovery! We all really enjoyed the parkrun.
I hope your back survived the rest of the weekend ok too. I tried to do a 10k Urban Trail Run in Breda on Sunday which proved a step to far for my back and I had drop down to the shorter course instead. Would have probably been ok just walking the rest of the 10k if it's hadn't rained the whole way round. Not my most enjoyable race.

I think that's a fairly common kind of ratio for a lot of people. Much as I love a bit of tourism over 60% of my runs have been at my main 2 parkruns (I moved house). I never understand these obsessive tourists who manage to do thier first 50 parkruns at 50 different venues or similar. How did the get interested in it in the first place? To me parkrun's a social thing, I'm much more likely to go for a run if I'm meeting up with a bunch of mates to do it.It would be a lot more but only 4 runs between post Covid restart date and Feb this year due to circumstances beyond my control.

Did some 1k intervals today with the view to improving my Parkrun times, should I continue with these and maybe another session with shorter faster efforts ?

First park run on Saturday, ran with my daughter who is training for the Manchester marathon in a few weeks time, we ran together at Delamere Forest in just under 30 minutes (recorded on strava as printer conked out on me when I tried to print my barcode) Really enjoyed it, the weather was good and it was a great place to run round. After we finished straight into the cafe for coffee and cake, back home for 10.30.

You can have your barcode scanned from your phone.I was at Mallards Pike on Saturday near the Forest of Dean. To the best of my memory, its the only course I've run where you never use the same bit of the route twice. I've done other single lap courses where the outbound and inbound legs are the same path to some degree. It's a good run on hard standing fire trails with loads of space. Plus it's a gentle incline for the first 2.5km and decline for the second 2.5km. So whilst my overall time was nowhere near PB territory, i think it might be the fastest fourth kilometer I've recorded at 4:00.

Or if you're recoding to Strava via a watch, most watches i.e. Garmin, Apple watches etc can display your barcode.
I've done that once but it wasn't very good. Took ages to scan so felt a bit guilty as the queue backed right up!fiatpower said:

It'll depend on the phone scanning it too, my first barcode was getting a bit worn down and it took a while to scan sometimes, but others it was straight through. When I volunteer and scan (Galaxy S21), every barcode is scanned in moments, even the bad ones, watches, etc.Waitforme said:

Yes you should continue but alter the intervals and sessions week-to-week. There are millions of examples online, YouTube as well - one of my favourite runners Ben Parkes has lots of these sorts:Current PR time is just inside 22 mins, so ave pace about 4:23.

My running club does a track session every week. Some examples include:
1) Mile repeats: one mile of running at 8 out of 10 pace, then 2-3 minutes static recovery until your heart rate comes down and repeat for about 30-35 minutes
2) 800metre repeats, with 2 minutes active recovery (either light jogging or walk) and repeat for 35-40 minutes
3) 400 metre repeats
4) Pyramid: 200, 400, 800, 1200 and then back down the over side
There are endless variations. The key is to get your heart rate up and then back down in rapid successions. Also to get your legs used to moving quickly, so sometimes 200m really hard, then 400m hard, but other times 1km or 1mile quicker than usual.
29:50 today, a mere five mins exactly off my PB, I think I need to be 10kg lighter to get closer to that which is doable. Being five years younger is going to be harder though!
Much more impressive was a lady in a lesser spotted blue 500 Parkrun shirt. According to the results she is on 535 now

Had a fun one at Northampton this week.
I wanted to try out my marathon shoes on a fast run, plus the way I have been running means I should be on for a marathon PB so wanted to see if I can push my parkrun pb down. travelled to Northampton racecourse as i saw it was pretty flat, armed with my brand new carbon cheat shoes.
They had a couple of pacers on, one of which is a bit quicker than my parkrun PB. so ran with the 23 minute pacer for the first km until he suddenly dropped back, I guessed he was running a touch quicker than 23 min pace. Carried on at that pace for the remainder of the run and was shocked to see the line with only 21 minutes on my watch! Carried on pushing to the end which ended up a 99 second PB for me! 21:38 (previously 23:17)
Very happy with that!
