On holiday in Western Australia and went to watch the Ironman for some inspiration, some very impressive performances from the elite folks to the amateurs.

Saw Alistair Brownlee on the run about 10k in, flip me, he was flying!

Went out for dinner in Margaret River tonight and bumped into him whilst with my son, congratulated him on his victory, very humble guy, stopped and spoke to us for a minute.

He certainly was - ticked off the first 21k in 1:17! Finished on a 2:43, 10 minutes up on the field and a new course record. Early Kona qualification, so he can concentrate on Tokyo for the first half of the year. Brilliant result for him.

Love that area - surfed Boranup, Yallingup & Surfers Point whilst I was there. Only thing you can do to stop the board wax from melting!! Absolutely bang on. Went on a great wine tasting day as well, that I thought was going to be absolutely ste, but was everything but!

Glad to hear Ali Brownlee took time out to have a chat - always comes across as a very down to earth, lovely guy.

Hope your IMWA experience was inspirational though thumbup

Well done to Alistair Brownlee. He seems to be proving me wrong with his Ironman potential. I wish him well.

Well done also to Katrina Matthews. 4th in women's race in 8:53.

Uh oh, gone and done it now. Actually paid for a training plan/coach access. It's not a bespoke one, but tailored to an extent.

It'll be very interesting to see if it makes any difference and if it does, how much.

19 weeks until Lanzarote, so got a bit of time to make it work hopefully smile

Excellent!! That lot'll keep you out of trouble (with everyone but your wife I guess!). How did Kielder go?

Great..! Let us know how you get on, I use a coach via Training Peaks, we talk once a week, updates my plan etc. He has come up to The Lakes a few times too for some swim/run sessions. Been really good to have access to a training plan.

Heh, the wife seems to be very understanding. She is coming to Iceland so will get to spend a few days sightseeing while I do the ultra.

Kielder was great. Overall 14th (out of 142 finishers) for the day race, then 16th (out of 196 finishers) for the night race on same day. Probably focus on a single race next time, it was tough doing both.

Some good stuff in this thread.

Evening. I did the London Olympic Tri (Think Virgin were the title sponsor) back in 2012 and 2013 and really enjoyed. Also did one F3 Events Sprint in about 2015 but haven't been back to it since. I do the odd open water swimming race but swimming is my background and can usually place quite well in the races with sometimes next to no training.

About two months ago I needed an event to sign up to focus me a little more. I have two young children and time is of course a precious commodity that has to be carefully split between family life, occasional DIY and restoring my 1982 Series 3 Land Rover. The later has really slowed down frown

I've made the decision to return to Triathlon, but not London again for various reasons, so I am doing the Windsor Olympic distance Tri in June of this year and I may do one other before the season is out. Will probabaly enter at least one open water race too.

I cycle 250 miles a month as part of a bike-train-bike commute and do the odd ride with the cycle club, but not on a regular basis because of reasons mentioned above.

A s a side project, I have promised myself a new bike if I manage to loose 2 stone. Undecided if I shall actually do that but we'll see.

Running is the tough one and I did a bit of regular running back in my mid 20s, but the recovery takes days following a road run and quite frankly the enjoyment was next to zero.

Training doesn't consist of anything tri specific at the moment. I do my cycle commute no matter what and I go the gym in our office building every day during the week and sometimes do a long pool swim at the weekend (Usually two miles plus).

Will drop into the thread occasionally and hopefully gain some inspiration biggrin

Great to see this thread getting some replies!!

My training is going OK trying to get a decent plan together to follow.

Can anyone recommend events in the SE? Olympic distance before June or half iron man after August?!

Oh well, seems churlish to be disappointed that all the Tri events up to the middle of summer are postponed. People are losing their lives right now, and that’s a sobering thought.

Going to run a DIY tri event at home.

The Swim

Need to choose a swim location, a couple of options but both requiring a hip harness and bungee cord:

Or...

Might "invest" in one of these if we going to be locked down for months...

The Cycle

All set in this department.

The Run

All good.

Going to start with Sprint Tri. :-)

Yeah, it does really. It's hard not be be just a bit disappointed though. In my case, IM Lanzarote was supposed to be 7 weeks away now - I couldn't wait to get out there and got myself in bangin' shape too! Cancelled now though, so 2021 it's going to have to be - far more important things going on in the world right now.

In other irrelevant news, just before it all kicked off I retired my 15 year old Giant TCR race bike to being a permanent Tacx Neo mule and taken the plunge on a new (well, new to me) set of wheels - behold!:-

I haven't had the opportunity to ride it properly yet, but it's league's ahead of what I'm used to riding, so very much looking forward to see what I can do on it!! biggrin

I've taken a couple of weeks off training - it doesn't seem quite right to be doing 20k runs or 100k rides outside just now - I'm lucky to have an indoor setup in my office, so am going to sit down, work out a decent plan with a BIG base period and do all my training indoors until this thing hopefully sorts itself out - got a whole year and a bit to play with now!!! biggrin

Woo, lovely..! That looks ace. It will be interesting to see what improvements you see on your local Strava segments first time out. What size tyres will you run on those wheels?

It really is a lovely put together thing - it'll be the first time for me on Q Rings as well, so interesting to see if they make a noticeable difference.

It's got 25's on there at the moment, so I'll probably stick with those.

You've got me looking at endless pools now! They're not cheap are they??!!! If anyone knows anything about them or has any recommendations, I'm all earssmile

Yesterday I completed the my first "triathlon" of 2020 at Conisiton Water. Not an event just parked up and did a back to back swim, cycle and run, brick sessions. Transition was at least 5 minutes between, so not exactly race pace :-)

I wasn't sure where to post this but decided this may be a good place....it's regarding having multiple Garmin devices....so for those who don't....skip this biggrin

I do a lot of cycling and I used to run to a fairly decent level (sub 35min 10k for example) but due to health reasons I was forced to stop...and became a cyclist. I have been doing a few runs the last week or 2 and I'm really enjoying it, so I'm looking to see if I can run 3x/week and ride 3-4x/week (currently riding 6x/week).

I have a Garmin Edge 1030 for riding and a forerunner 935 which I just bought for running. Now, the 935 logs HR data 24/7 to get your "intensity minutes", stress levels etc etc. If I take the watch off for my ride and use my Edge 1030 for the ride, when my ride gets synced to Garmin Connect, will that activity data get transferred to my 935 (including EPOC/recovery values, HR data, intensity minutes etc) or should I wear the 935 all the time. I want the data, but don't really want to wear the watch when cycling. Likewise, if I wear the watch and record it as an activity on that as well as my Garmin....would the numbers get doubled up!?

One more irrelevant question....my resting HR.....Garmin says my resting HR is 37bpm, yet it showed the overnight low at 35bpm? Any reason why it's 37 and not 35?

Thanks very much in advance.
