What’s going on with the ref?
This afternoon he failed to spot a red drop (a foul pointed out by Ronnie to him)
Now (15th frame) he puts the pink in a place that is clearly NOT in line (when the spot was covered).
Terrible!

But….the players are stepping up to the mark: good quality stuff biggrin

Easy to forget how old Ronnie is (47), hard to believe he's still at the top at that age.
He’s possibly a little more fallible than he used to be but still amazing to watch.
This has been a cracking match.

Genius. I’ve been saying to myself 5 years or more to celebrate every last tournament like it will be the last. Yet he just keeps on winning.

RoS and Ding seem like unlikely friends but seems to be genuine bond there

Wonder how long he can carry on... mid 50s? As long as his mince pies are in good order he's fine I guess

Some of the long pots in the final frame were just laughably good. I know the pressure was off by then but green and blue were superb.

I sometimes wonder when I watch Ronnie play if he is just waiting until the point where he chooses to win. Ding got to 7 frames tonight and at that moment it seemed like Ronnie thoughty that is enough time to finish it now.

He is in a different universe to every other player.

I have the same feeling too. It often looks like he's giving his opponent a few crumbs, until he decides that he has toyed with them long enough and then takes the whole cake for himself. Just to give himself some sort of challenge.

So many great players bottle it when the winning line approaches. Jimmy White would be a multiple world champion if it wasn't for that last 1% of mental strength to get over the line. Ronnie has the ability to go up about 3 gears and close off a match astonishingly quickly when he gets a sniff of victory. That's quite a power to have when you're also best break-builder the game has ever seen.

To still be winning big tournaments at his age, after maintaining such a high level for 30 years is just unreal. I was always a big Hendry fan but by that age he'd been retired for years having slipped out of the top 16. I suspect Ronnie could be a 50+ year old world champion, if he wants to be.

As said it is incredible what Ronnie keeps doing for sure. I still personally prefer Hendry overall though, because Ronnie isn't wired up right to me, and when he speaks he never seems to make much sense to me. An epic snooker player though for definite.

I think one of Dings first appearances was being soundly beaten by Ronnie, & he put his arm round Ding and consoled him. I suspect he has been a bit of a mentor over the years ever since.

& yes, it often feels like when Ronnie decides to show up, he annihilates the opponent, after toying with them.
Proper character of the game, and truly the GOAT!
