So after changing how the nominees are elected... The four women came last. Guessing that didn't go according to plan!

I think Konta should have been a lot higher but her year didn't end well.
Even as one of PHs liberalists, I'm not surprised. It's called Sports Personality and they aren't exactly household names.

Hamilton and Froome not even in top three.
I'm not sure Hamilton is particularly likeable and (whilst I admit I don't know exactly how the voting works), Froome's chances must have gone down the pan this week. Plus, when it comes to sporting achievement I think people can relate better to what Mo does i.e. run a long way very quickly.
F1 drivers have won plenty in the past though including Hamilton. This year he came 6th.

Perhaps people think he just has the best car so it’s no real achievement. Or as you said, people don’t like him. He seems to get a lot of stick on here which is surprising when it’s a mainly UK based motoring forum,

Mos a worthy winner anyway, so we’ll done to him,

The bookies odds were very strange, I put £5 on Mo Farah with Betfair at 120-1, yes 120-1, and they paid out £600.

He is a national hero who comes across well, everyone knows and has ended his track career on a high so I had assumed he would be up there as favourite or thereabouts, but they obviously thought not. Joshua was 8-1 on....

Mo Farah wins with 80k votes, Andy Murray won with over 200k votes. Is it simply the voting has been more evenly shared out this time or are people simply not interested any more?

So to win SPOTY, you need to participate in a sport that's shown on the BBC, or have a well-organised lobby which worked for Ryan Giggs and AP McCoy and got Jonathan Rea second place yesterday. Appearing on Strictly helps too.

As for the overseas personality- pick four no-hopers so that you can give a prize to a superannuated tennis player who has won it several times before. A prize never given to Michael Schumacher.

I'd have liked to have seen Hamilton win, but he has won it before so can't really begrudge Mo Farah's victory. With so much British sporing success nowadays its no longer a struggle to find someone worthy of SPOTY unlike twenty years ago when Greg Rudekski the Canadian tennis player won it for not being too crap

Was a bit busy yesterday so only just watched it, all I can say is it's the BBC SPOTY, they know who they want to win

The BBC narrowly defeated Eurosport then.

So BBC viewers vote for someone they've seen on the BBC then?

Looks like its that time of year again,

BBC shortlist so already manipulated, https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/sports-personality/504...

Ben Stokes
Lewis Hamilton
Dina Asher-Smith
Katarina Johnson-Thompson
Raheem Sterling
Alun Wyn Jones

As usual I want to be LH but my money is on Ben Stokes

The bookies strongly favour Stokes.

They aren't giving Hamilton too much of a chance.

Only a couple of the above can honestly claim to be the very best in the world at their sport, and yet there's no mention of Adam Peaty? He's head-and-shoulders the GOAT at his discipline.

Johnson Thompson for me, she's had an amazing year.

But by quite some margin Paul Tierney has achieved the greatest sporting feat this year and the week after was probably out marshaling or giving out numbers for his local club races, the man is beyond legend.

LH easily my favourite sports person on there, but I can't say he has much of a personality to award.

Maybe in the next year or so he can turn his vegan/eco ranting into something cohesive and inspirational and become a contender. Right now I think many 'households' don't know much about him, and remember in F1 when you're the best at it you often become the bad guy too!

Stokes is my second favourite on the list, in terms of sporting moments and bringing a country together in celebration... you'd struggle to do what he did (twice) this year.

Bookies indicating Stokes then Dina Asher-Smith as favourites. All the others miles behind.

Has Stokes been rehabilitated after his miracle overs after the gay bashing and fighting stuff.

Google having loads of reports of him sticking up for gay so looks like it’s all good.

Hamilton has an amazing achievement but I just dont like him. He's been nominated a few times and never won and I dont see that changing this year.

Ben Stokes had an amazing year, but his personal behavior is a little off, I know he was found not guilty of the fight, but there was also the photos of him chocking his wife, which apparently was a joke, which didn't look like a joke. Just seems like hes a bit of a dick.

Never heard of Alun Jones.

So KJT gets the vote for me.

As above why is Peaty not on the list?

He won in 2014, if my memory serves me right.
