Incredible performance by Murray given what he looked like for the first 90 minutes or so.

Also, I see that the Australian Open have now ditched the long final set and will have a tie break instead if it goes 6-6. Wimbledon have also changed their rules and will have a tie break if it goes to 12-12.

What a match to go out on.

What a shame it has to end this way.

What a player.

What a fighter - he was in bits for a large part of that match.

A three-time grand-slam champion - ending an ~80 year old wait for a British slam champion. 2 x Olympic single golds plus a historic Davis Cup win. And all of that in an era of Federer/Nadal/Djokovic.

What a career, what a sportsman. I’d rate him above Farrah, Wiggins, Hoy, Hamilton, McIlroy etc and think he’s the best British sportsman of this generation.
No chance. Phil Taylor is the best British sportsman of this generation.

Talking of retirements there is a lot of talk about this being Federer's final year.

Starting to seem likely that there is one record he will not take, which is Jimmy Connors' record of 109 tour singles titles.

He needs another 11 titles to surpass that record and realistically he is going to fall some way short.

What a record of Connors!, it may never be broken.
The benchmark set by Jimmy Connors in terms of titles is indeed very high and I agree Federer is going to struggle to beat it if he sticks to the sort of schedule he's been playing in recent years. However, if he took the view he just wanted the record - and decided to play more lower ranking events in order to get there - I think it's still possible for him to do it. Don't see Fed adopting that sort of approach though....

Serena loses from 5-1 and 40-30 up in the final set. Ouch.

Nadal looking in imperious form but he seems to bring the best out of Djokovic. If Djokovic gets through Pouille then it's likely to be another classic slogfest.

Pouille has a chance against Djokovic I reckon, some of the smoothest groundstrokes I've seen and he's quick around the court but defence nowhere near Novak.

Why do you think Novak is a bad matchup for him?

Yeah I see where you're coming from. I see Pouille as a more aggressive Murray and if he serves well then it's going to be long rallies. I don't see either coming to the net very often and only reason I see Pouille having a chance is because Novak isn't firing on all cylinders.

I remember a couple of years ago at the US Open when Pouille knocked out Nadal, he didn't have the forehand he does now but the striking was incredible.

Alarm set for 8am tomorrow. It'd be hard to bet against Djokovic, 6-0 winning record in finals but I'll be rooting for Nadal.

Preferring Djokovic tennis out of the two, should be a good slogging match going to feel sorry for the balls, both hard and accurate hitting!

Nadal has had a good break, is looking good and no doubt has had plenty time to work on his game with his Dcotors, chemists and coaches.
As bhy as that sounds I would like to point out that I actually like Nadal.

At least she got to enjoy this one. Especially as her previous (first?) slam in the US was rather overshadowed courtesy of "that" match and also the moronic vocal / booing section of the crowd after she won.
