Rules are rules, and I’m no fan of moley, but she went down like she’d been shot by a sniper rather than accidentally hit by a lob to the ball kid.

Jeez, I thought by the sounds of it, it was in a fit of rage fired back at service speed not a gentle knock back. What's the linesman after dropping like that, compensation? Come on these people get hit by serves all the time.

That's hilarious, I was expecting some sort of missile launch not that :-)

Yeah reading it on the text you’d think one thing but the actual footage is very different, he’s just knocking the ball back.

He can be a right bellend sometimes Novak but he’s been done harshly there....

DQ’d for being a dozy git. That was nowhere near the ball boy.

Agreed, ball boys and judges have been thwacked by much harder strikes than that, it looks as if it hit
her in the throat which can't have been nice but, it was 100% accidental even if it was hit backwards at
a speed that might be considered unwise.

A big fat fine would have been sufficient.

Why, because he is Djokovic? And should get special treatment?

It doesn’t matter if it was accidental. He deliberately hit the ball in anger (even if not hard) and it hit and injured an official. He didn’t have to hit the ball. He wasn’t playing a point.

Henman was disqualified at Wimbledon for accidentally hitting a ballgirl.

Djokovic is just a prick. Never his fault (like it wasn’t his fault that people got Covid because of the tournament he promoted).

DQ for that?

There needs to be some leeway in the rules IMO. A point deduction would have been more appropriate. It was probably the shock that made the lineswoman drop.

I saw the Henman incident and he blasted the ball and it hit the ball girl at close range. Different incidents. Personality wise he is my least favourite of the "big three" but the neutral will feel he is a bit hard done by.

I just heard sound footage of her being hit and choking. She was in genuine distress, it seemed, irrespective of velocity.

Looks like the ball hit her square on the throat.

BBC just shown footage of djokovic interviewed 4 years ago asking if he was concerned about getting DQd because of his outbursts - he answered the genuine question like a petulant teenager.

They should get the journo to re-interview him biggrin.

I think he's a bit of a dick but that was a light tap. Ridiculous.

I got hit on the forehead yesterday by a proper forehand groundstroke (he was standing at the service line, I was standing inside my service box); it still hurts today and there's a red mark on my forehead but we played on as soon as I'd picked my hat up (yes, it knocked my hat off my head!); the other players wanted a timeout. (I guess the only stupid thing about it was that if I wasn't in the way, it would have sailed off the court so to add insult to injury, we conceded a point!)

I imagine the liney made more of it for potential compo claim purposes but officials in any sport surely have the right to be able to do their job without fear of physical injury. If the ball hit a ref in any other sport as a result of a temper tantrum, accidental or not, they would be off the pitch. You've got to have a clear and unambiguous rule for this sort of thing. Contrition either immediately or later in the press conference doesn't excuse it on any level. Djokovic didn't even bother to attend the after-match conference. That tells you how genuine his apologies were(n't).

I can’t recall any such incident in a football match which seems strange.
