What a brilliant match the sensational 18 year old Emma Raducanu played today against Sorana Cirstea. No "chucking the toys out of the pram" when a point didn't go her way either..! She played freely, with great composure and what a backhand stroke she has.., and forehand isn't too shabby either. I think the match would have been closer if Sorana had made more of her 1st serves, but Emma was the stronger and better player today... Go Girl smile

She’ll get knocked over as soon as she meets decent opposition. Nothing to see here, cannon fodder at best. In my opinion.

Have a good stir mate.

We all know that she won't win it, but she's doing bloody well at the moment.

She's a wise kid and won't win the title, but she's just done her A-Levels, so if it doesn't work out in a tennis career, she'll have the qualifications to take a different path.. Great role-model for the younger generation where the education system has been shattered due to Covid-19.. If she inspires just one person that's a success... And I'm so pessimistic normally..!

A lot of men fawning over an attractive 18 year old female tennis player. biggrin

It reminds me of the days when the tabloids used to plaster their pages with very ‘athletic’ photos of a young Ana Kournikova at Wimbledon. Of course, it was an innocent attempt to sell more papers to an enthusiastic tennis loving readership.

Nice stereotyping

It’s a natural response for a heterosexual to have sexual thoughts when seeing an attractive member of the opposite sex. Is that stereotypical? I’d probably shorten that to just typical.

So all blokes saying how good Max Verstapen is as a young driver when he broke on to F1 circuit are gay or confused. How do you know what sex the writers of comments or am I missing missing meta data in profile.

With the Williams brother's dominance ebbing and the subsequent demise of grunting, screeching and fist pumping
perhaps a return to a more genteel ladies game, the glow of perspiration on pretty faces, the pitter-patter of dainty feet,
the flutter of floral crinolines and a maybe a glimpse of ankle, in a world where all the players look like Jenny Agutter from The Railway Children.

{ he's gone gaga this time, Nurse, his medication.}

Max isn’t my type. But substitute him with a young Nelson Piquet, and I can see what you mean.

Murray's still very short of match practice so writing him off now as a singles player might be a little premature IMO. However, he was nowhere near where he needs to be against Shapovalov yesterday and if he can't raise his level a fair bit higher than that I think he'll call it a day, at least where singles is concerned; when you've been at the very top - as Murray has - there can't be much attraction in scratching around just to make the top 50 in the world.

However, I do agree he could continue to play to a decent level in doubles and it would be good to see him do that if he decides he no longer wishes to continue with singles.
I agree. 115 grand for getting to R3 should soften the blow a bit though.
I take your point but I doubt money is much of a motivator for Murray; he was made for life years ago and I suspect for him it's about being competitive and winning titles. If he feels he can't do that I can see him walking away and personally I think he'd be right to do so - IMO there's few sadder sights in sport than a champion who can't accept their performance has declined way beyond their best and insists on going on for too long.....

The thing I really like about Emma Raducanu is that she plays with a smile. It sort of lifts you when she plays.
I hope she keeps that disposition as she progresses.

Andy Murray has reached a cross roads where he has to decide whether to carry on with mediocre results or call it a day.
Absolutely amazing to come back from the physical problems he has had.
