Without wanting to rain on her parade. I just read her route to the final and she has fought no one I have heard of.
Her opponent in the final is ranked 73rd? So did no one else enter this tournament or summat?
In short, is the press hyping it all up?
Well don't then. Her opponent in the final is ranked 73rd? So did no one else enter this tournament or summat?

Come on a 18 year old qualifier reaching the USA final, is there any need to even think the above.
Why would the press not be hyping it up.
That amazing and what can I say that hasn't been said... Rarely have I wanted the channels on tv to watch the US Open, but last night listening on 5Live it was still amazing. Even whilst being challenged harder during the 2nd set, again she had the answers to win.
Her tennis is perfect, her attitute professional, and her giving so much time to the crowd afterwards is so refreshing..
An icon in the making, warm and so engaging., wishing her good luck in the final....

It's never been done before. Not in the Mens or the Womens. No Qualifier has ever reached the Final of the US Open.
History in the making.
She'll be seeded for the Australian Open!!!
Not wanting to rain on her parade in terms of that stat. But this is likely due to the tightening up of age restrictions on the WTA tour in recent years.History in the making.

If you went back a generation she would have been competing in far more events on the main tour earlier and so would have almost certainly (based on her game) by the age of 18 been qualifying for the Grand Slams automatically due to ranking points.

I think that so far the press have been quite subdued in relation to the magnitude of her achievements, but then again like you, not many journos outside the sport section follow tennis or understand it.Her opponent in the final is ranked 73rd? So did no one else enter this tournament or summat?

Well done Emma, but Rey was extremely disappointing.
True, but you could say that about all of Raducanu's opponents so far - she's making them stretch outside their comfort zone and then they're crumbling. Although in the last 2 matches Raducanu seemed to be less aggressive for periods of the matches. To be fair she has played 3 more matches than anyone else she has faced.nickfrog said:

Hopefully she will be on most of the front pages tomorrow.

Out of interest which female tennis players HAVE you heard of? Her opponent in the final is ranked 73rd? So did no one else enter this tournament or summat?

Oh well, it didn't take very long for this thread to start attracting negativity (or ignorance).
I thought she might get a bit of grace during this tournament before the press start digging and people on social media start attacking her, but nope! The press are still onside but pretty much every post seems to now have 'popular' comments questioning her nationality or her run to the final etc.

If the English (for the most part) became passionate fans of a surly Scott then I am sure a hot babe from Bromley will have few difficulties. Apparently Amazon Prime have now agreed to share live broadcast rights with Channel 4 tonight
For what it's worth, 3 years on, they have played each other once before: https://www.flashscore.co.uk/match/KbSCwLxC/#match...
