Medvedev should take that trophy and walk straight off that court with his middle fingers up in the air. Utter disgraceful crowd, as usual in New York really.

Yes, well done Med, been knocking on the door for a while.
Flat performance from Djokovic, but maybe they shows how tough top level tennis is.

Screaming out whilst Medvedev was trying to serve at championship point was a low even for NY crowds.

Djokovic looked flat but some of the younger generation should have stopped him earlier in the tournament/year.

Has McEnroe commented on her win yet? Hopefully he’ll be a bit humble but knowing him …

Agree, hideous crowd as usual. More plastic in their faces than the chairs they are wedged into. Texting porky Bankers in hospitality boxes, next to redneck ‘whoopers’ who know as much about tennis as I do about NASCAR. The Umpire was beyond hopeless at controlling the mob…
Medvedev stuffed him, he had nowhere to go both tactically or physically. Nothing to do with being slow on the day, rubber legs etc….he was beaten out of the stadium by an outstanding player.

I know what he said at Wimbly, but Mac now seems a different person than he used to be --I think he would admit he was wrong .

I hadn't seen this but I suspect Coco Gauff might be in a little trouble...

He was knackered and it showed very early on. I can't recall ever seeing him make so many errors both in terms of actual making shots and decision making. Medvedev played very well and deserved to win but let's not pretend that Djokovic was anywhere near his full capabilities.

Eh?, How was he wrong?. It is common knowledge Emma had a panic attack at Wimbledon and he said

Mcenroe said:
I feel bad for Emma, obviously. It appears it just got a little bit too much, as is understandable, particularly with what we’ve been talking about over the last six weeks with Osaka not even here.

“How much can players handle? It makes you look at the guys that have been around and the girls for so long – how well they can handle it.
Unless he made other comments since that she would never make it due to nerves I can't see what he has said that is wrong?

McEnroe is very direct and calls things like they are without the sugar coating. It tends not to go down too well these days. Invariably he is correct though.

Skipping past ER news back to players currently playing; Andy Murray is playing a Challenger event in France, the Open de Rennes, winning yesterday 6-3 6-1 against German Y Maden, while Heather Watson lost in the 1st round in Slovenia against WTA no.40 Cirstea, 6-1 6-3.

Katie Boulter has won on consecutive days to qualify for the same competition and plays in the 1st round today.

Evans and Konta not playing yet AFAIK, not sure about other players.

Anyone else find it crass how the media is focussing on how rich and famous Emma will be, rather than her success on court and how inspirational to young people she will be?

"A marketer's dream!" "Could earn £100m!" "Speaks Chinese so can break into the Chinese market!"

I expect that from DM but not the bloody BBC.

A little, but that's women's tennis.

Emma seems to have slotted right in...

Just updating this; Katie Boulter came through her first round match and plays again today in the last 16, and Andy Murray in the next round in Rennes today at about 17:45. I really hope AM can translate what appeared to be a gutsy and physical US Open Match into some good results and some sort of comeback to some sort of level.

I'm leaving the sponsorship/merchandise/exploitation stuff about ER to her separate thread but I am intrigued as to which contest she might arrive in next. The Chicago Classic 500 event has its list of competitors but there are still some wildcards to fill, and the Indian Wells 1000 event surely has to be on her (teams) radar.

Yes, you would think she would want to enter Indian Wells as it looks like sufficient time after the US open.

Gave a double check when I saw you mention it before realising it must have been delayed due to Covid.

Well they are similar in size to western Europe and they have one of the grand slams (western Europe two) and three of the ATP Masters 1000 (western Europe four).

So it seems a reasonable amount.
