Medvedev stuffed him, he had nowhere to go both tactically or physically. Nothing to do with being slow on the day, rubber legs etc….he was beaten out of the stadium by an outstanding player.
He was knackered and it showed very early on. I can't recall ever seeing him make so many errors both in terms of actual making shots and decision making. Medvedev played very well and deserved to win but let's not pretend that Djokovic was anywhere near his full capabilities.
I’m not pretending….he was blown off court.

Andy Murray, currently ranked 116, has lost the first set 6-2 against his 158 ranked opponent; Katie Boulter (WTA 171) just starting out against Putinseva who is ranked nearly 130 places above her and second seed for the competition.

AM breaks late to take the second set 6-4, while KB, despite gamely battling loses the first set 6-3.

I'm watching the KB game and she is being out-thought quite easily by Putinseva, but she does have a lot of fight in her and at times causes problems - unfortunately her serve is mis-firing in the first set, she doesn't make the greatest shot selection at the net/her volleys are a little wayward and she doesn't seem able to vary her shots to move her opponent around.

AM game, I'm just watching the live updates of the points.

Boulter outclassed and loses 6-3, 6-1.
Murray went 5-0 down in the third before saving 3 match points on his serve to get his first game, but loses the next match point to lose 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

I can't imagine he'll be over the moon about this loss after playing so well in the US Open match.

Andy Murray steadily lifting his game after a so-so first set against World 26 Ugo Humbert which he lost after not one of taking six break points. Second set was better, certainly the serve with quite a few aces and quite a few dodgy line calls to upset the partisan and obviously biased French crowd. A 4-0 lead in the third made AM look really good but Humbert rose with the crowd to claim a couple of games before Andy served out for the set and match, 4-6, 6-3,6-2.

All in all, the more he is playing, the better he is getting, but time is no friend to any athlete so it remains to be seen how high he can climb back up the ladder. He is starting to show signs of being able to hit some familiar high grade shots, numerous aces and those excellent returns that have kept him in points for longer than his opponents wished him to be.

Apparently, Humbert at 26 in the world is the highest ranked opponent he has beaten this season, so good news and should give him a boost.

Murray wins again - straight sets - says he's feeling better and playing better the more he plays. Last eight in Metz.

Edit: Lost against Hurkacz (World no. 8) in the QF, HUrkacz went on to win the comp.

Harriet Dart won a tricky three set match in Chicago yesterday before AM won in straight sets (with minimal chuntering to himself) in San Diego. Cameron Norrie won in straight sets too.

HD plays again today, and Dan Evans has a go in San Diego too, which he wins.

ETA: HD (141) lost against in a game fight against the World 31, Kudermetova.

ETA: So it's Evans vs Norrie in San Diego, DE goes 3-0 up and then has two set points leading 5-2 while serving (and seemingly cruising) but CN fights back to force a tie-break which he wins 7-3.

ETA: CN beats DE in straight sets and then beats Shapalover in the QF followed by Ruud in the SF to make the final in San Diego - a fantastic run from him - well done CN.

CH unfortunately lost in straight sets in the final but it takes him to 26 in the world with DE at 22.

Indian Wells 2021.

Katie Boulter starts her qualifying today with the competition proper starting on the 7th October.

Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray have been given wildcards with Dan Evans, Cameron Norrie and Heather Watson also entered.

ETA: Katie unfortunately defeated in the qualifier; ER, DE and CN received byes from round of 128 to the r64 except Andy Murray who plays Mannarino in the first round, and Watson who plays Sloane Stephens.

Looking to buy a Head Ti S6 racket, quite an old model but still highly rated I gather and nice and light. I am trying to avoid tennis elbow problems and hoping that this racket might be the answer.
Can anyone please point me to a foolproof grip size measuring method for my hand which does not seem to have the convenient lateral crease start point I keep seeing referred to.
Think I might be a size 3 but is it better to start with a size 2 and get it built up with a heat sleeve?

Watching Heather now. Just lost 5 games in a row and looks to be breathing heavily, much in contrast to Stephens. And, to try and put it politely, Heather is noticeably larger than her opponent.

I watched the first half of the match.. and then it became all very predictable.

Looking forward to watching quite a bit of the tennis over the next week or so, the coverage on Amazon seems pretty good.

In the first set they both seemed determined to throw it away.

Watson, although only 29, seems to be declining quite rapidly in results and fitness levels which is a shame. Johanna Konta, 30 now, is struggling with niggling injuries and Laura Robson, with all the determination she undoubtedly has, seems unlikely to compete again at age 27.

Murray has got his wedding ring and stinky trainers back and both he and Emma have also had the good fortune to have the start times for their matches pushed back 7 hours and more out of the midday heat in San Diego today (ER at 0200GMT sat and AM at 0330). Norrie and Evans not so luck with 11am local (1900GMT) starts tomorrow.

Pretty predictable and probably a very valuable learning experience. Playing a quality opponent who’d come through a “warm up” match the previous day was always going to be tricky.

I think it's evident, or a damn close guess, that as good as she can be, she needs a coach all the time. She has the Kremlin and Transylvania Opens on her dance card to the end of the season so needs a swift move for a permanent coach or one of her many previous to pack a bag again and step in.

Really good reaction she had to the loss, probs the best thing that could have happened.

She said "'I'm 18 years old. I need to cut myself some slack'

Can you imagine Ronaldo saying that? Or Michael Jordan?

From what I have seen, the GOATs are people who get very angry with themselves, go straight to training and work even harder.

If Emma is chilled in defeat, not sure that is a god sign.

She needs a coach who will take no bull from her. She is 18 and being feted by the likes of the Fashion Set. Needs a Alex Ferguson type character who she will listen to and ensure endorsements, celeb life and other commitments are kept to a sensible level.

Fashion stuff and celeb life will not be offered to her if she slips down the rankings.

I think she is very motivated to succeed, so we will see.
