So Fernandez got knocked out of the AO in the first round. I’m afraid Emma will follow suit. Has it ever happened before that the two finalists from the previous grand slam get knocked out in the first round of the next grand slam?
Well, it didn't happen this time!

Dan Evans wins in straight sets against David Goffin.

Liam Broady playing against a mecurial Nick Kyrgios who has already done a through the legs under arm serve in the second game laugh
That a great win, but can't warm to Evans at all.
Like a typical bad-tempered, classless 'angry' opponent from opposing club in local leagues. Fed up to back teeth with them.
Norrie far more matured.
Same. Can't stand Evans. Wouldn't be out of place in my local city centre wearing a hoddie riding a stolen bmx. Miserable tit

Currently watching Andy losing against someone I’ve not heard of. He isn’t playing well. Perhaps feeling after effects of last match. He has had so many break points and I’m not sure he has taken any yet. Grim viewing. He is running out of time to turn it around. Hope he manages it somehow.

AM 2 sets down against a qualifier - bit what a qualifier; 6'3", excellent serve, very mobile, young, fit and ver motivated. A long way back over 5 sets if he can do it at all.

ER 3-0 up with two breaks of serve in the first three games.

Edit: At the end of the 5th game (3,2) ER had a medical timeout for right hand blisters which keeps troubling her. Lost the first set 6-4. ER is playing the second set without an effective forehand - just slice or gentle returns but is somehow getting through this and some pain to lead 4-2 in the second set.

Edit: It's been fascinating to watch as Kovinic took an age to work out to hit it only to ER's forehand during which time ERE had worked out how to slice and lob more effectively to put Kovinic on the back foot and upset her game.

ER has taken the second set but only with a few -played-through-gritted-teeth forehands to help her through. A re-dressing of the ER blisters has taken place and a change her outfit/clear her head for Kovinic so onto the decided set of a very curious and odd game to watch.

ER out after 3 - a brave performance given the blisters but not able to compete really.

Thought my bet on Kovinic was looking a bad one when I tuned in at 3-0 in first set and she was 14-1 to win the game but it ended up winning.

I wonder if age has caught up with Andy Murray?
He was fired up for his first round but did five sets take too much out of him so he couldn’t raise his game to a high enough level for the second round?

Getting to the final in Sydney didn't help him. I don't think he would have originally planned to play there, but lost first round the week before so needed some match time. He ended up playing something like 6 matches in 10 days, and that's too much. Daniel is low ranked but rising, and played great, Andy just didn't have enough gas in the tank. Hi problem is that there are loads of these guys now, the mens game is very competitive, and getting to and maintaining a sufficient level of match readiness is going to be very tough. I think he will give it a go through the American hard court spring season and then take a view.

Just watching the Monfils v Kecmanovic match, without a doubt the Serbians fans are the dirtiest and most disrespectful on the tennis circuit. No wonder their saviour Djokovic is a bit nuts with this bunch of morons egging him on.

Tsitsipas and his team have been warned about coaching before - obvious cheating that got caught this time by positioning a greek speaking official beneath the Tsitsipas box.

Used to dislike his antics but now see him as someone with a bit of passion and definitely brightens up the sport.

I love the way Tsitsipas plays tennis but he seems like an unpleasant individual, what with his extra long toilet breaks, running down the serve clock below zero and constant coaching from his father. They seem to ignore the warnings. The ATP need to ban his father from his box - make him sit at the top of the stadium where he can’t be heard.

I also think the serve clock should come with a buzzer once it runs down. If you haven’t served before the buzzer you lose the point. That would make Tsitsipas, Nadal and Djokovic follow the rules more closely.
