Black powder and guns pre 1900 are not on license and everything in between is category C which means you just need to be a member of a club..
Does that mean you can buy a cartridge loading gun - lever action rifles and some revolvers spring to mind - which were made before 1900 and still have readily available ammunition for them?

If you buy an antique or 'obsolete' gun off ticket then the law assumes you are not going to fire it, so you wouldn't be wanting to buy or load ammunition for it.

So, no, you can't buy assembled ammunition 'off ticket' in any circumstance.

Yes you can buy the gun off license, but to buy ammunition for it you would need a license and if it were a handgun the ammunition might fall into category B, so in effect you would have to have a gun of the same calibre on ticket to buy ammunition.

Well, I decided not to flaff around with mid-range red dot sights or experiment with airsoft red dot sights, so I bought an Aimpoint from overseas at about 60% of the UK price.
Details please. I thought scope were not allowed due to the ITAR laws.

Recently saw a red dot scope on A us forum for 30 dollars everybody raved about them they were over 100 pounds here frown

Magnification is irrelevant. There isn't really any hard and fast rules about what is and isn't on the ITAR list, but generally it's any scope which might have a military or government application or which isn't obviously for sporting use.

In general, there's no problem bringing back scopes from the U.S. as long as you put them in your checked baggage, but in the very unlikely event U.S. customs looked at your bags on the way out, you should be prepared for a chat and confiscation. Note that TSA are not Customs and are not bothered about what's in your luggage unless it is likely to explode.

Mmmm, interesting. Seems like it would be a way to get a useable gun without the state knowing about it. Eg buy a gun on your licence where the ammunition has been around a long time, .30-30 for example and a modern 30-30 rifle. Then go buy a Winchester 94 which was made before 1900 and also takes 30-30 but does not have to go on your licence. Perhaps useful if you are the sort that worries someone will come and take all your guns and already have 100,000 round of ammo and a half tonne of tinned Spam in your basement.

FEO came back and checked my shotgun cabinet today. Asked me about the install, checked it all over and gave it a hefty pull. Confirmed "That's not going anywhere..." and said I should get my certificate in a few week's time, so still a bit of waiting to do coffee

They may not contact your doctor and may only contact one referee.

What ammo did you ask for and what did you get btw?
.357/38 from 500 to 300, so not a massive drama.

1000x .22, 300x .303 and 300x 7.62x54R was approved no problem.

Whole process is taking so long I'm already planning my first variation rofl

You may be able to get that upped at some point in the future.

Depends on usage, and whether you are going to re-load straight away or purchase, either from RFD or from club etc.

A lot of the guys that shoot .38/357 with lever guns at our club buy 'cheap' .38SPL from the club on club shoots and have a low allocation of ammo on their FAC as a result (200 rds or less)
If you do the same the reduction won't matter, unless you 'shoot away' at any point.
If you don't do this and are buying from RFD etc., then having only 300 rds will become tedious if you burn through it...and you don't have easy access to supply from RFD. I know some people that can easily do 150 rds of .38SPL on club shoots.

^ Also it isn't like you can just walk into Asda (owned by Walmart) and buy ammo like you can in a normal country. You could have to drive 100 miles to a RFD that has the caliber and type of ammo you want in stock, so you want a good allocation.

Hi all, just about to buy a new gun. Looking at either a beretta 486 ( side by side) 20g or a fausti side by side 20g.

I know that fausti make the 486 but I don't know if it's the same quality as the beretta ?

Any views ?

Or you could make your own which is really easy and you don't have to rely on a rfd

Enjoyed popping to the Gamefair at Hatfield House today.

It was a bit of a mud bog, but well worth a visit.

You've got to laugh at those ladies wearing "Fairfax and Favour" suede boots in all that mud! Form over function....

I bought an M38 as one of my first rifles, it's great fun on guest days with the big ball of flame, the wrath of an angry god noise and the earth shaking shockwave. The fact that it is cheap to feed on milsurp is an added bonus laugh
