The PH Gun Cabinet - Shooting Matters
Discussion
Eley Zenith 30G 6 shot - expensive, but clean kills and great at range for a sensible load.
Also Express Supreme Game, but I find they dirty the barrels a lot, more of a nuisance to clean.
or Eley VIP Game also.
To be honest, it all seems to be down to personal taste.
RC cartridges are also popular around here.

In general it seems that people feel the need for heavy loads and larger shot, but in my view unnecessarily in a lot of cases.
Unless you are shooting really high birds, you should be able to kill most things with a 28G 6 shot in a 12 Bore.
Certainly that's what some of the best shots I have seen do.
The same seems to go for heavy choke etc.
I have personally seen people cannon birds in half thanks to misuse of such heavy cartridges and chokes at close range.
If you go and stand in a valley in Wales, fair enough, but otherwise it seems like overkill and in fact is actually worse than a lighter load and less choke at close range.
Most of all, as they always say it's where you put the lead that counts!

Still have a pallet of Hull Imperial 30g 5's left over from last season.
To be honest, i've shot game with a variety of different carts and in my limited experience, the difference (beyond recoil) is not noticeable.....we've got a pallet of Layvale express (which we got cheaply) waiting to be used. I'll let you know how we get on with them.

Has anyone got any recommendations for Shooters Liability Insurance?
Obviously there's the BASC but there seems to be a lot of negativity towards them without any actual details as to why they're no good.
I think thats more to do with the way its run the argybargy from last year - the insurance is good and I have known of a few people that have relied on it and of course their legal team.Obviously there's the BASC but there seems to be a lot of negativity towards them without any actual details as to why they're no good.

I use Gunplan. Obviously there's the BASC but there seems to be a lot of negativity towards them without any actual details as to why they're no good.

Hi, where around London do your use your shotgun? So far, around London the only place I've been shotgun shooting is the Bisley pay and play.
Bisley Pay n Play is pretty good, and I go there a lot, even though West London Shooting Ground is only a few miles from home.Fennes is our Local one and it's OK, but never seems to be open when you want it.
They have a wedding venue there too, so it's closed Saturday afternoons and Sunday, the two main times I want to go usually!
They do open three nights a week to 8pm, but that's only any good in the summer.
The best ground I have been to is High Lodge in Suffolk, which is owned by George Digweed, it's mostly in the woods, and there is a fantastic selection of stands! Think it's open most of the weekend too, just a bit far for me, 1.5 hours drive etc
Been meaning to try out a simulated game day too, have heard that they are fun.
