Haha. Review of Sten gun. "stty but lethal".
Its was the cheap dip magazines that were the problem with the STEN. Despite it looking the cheaply knocked up weapon it was, they were very effective, the slower rate of fire meant soldiers with less training could actually hit things at normal smg ranges, which is why they were effective weapons to be dropped to resistance units. In a back to back test on a range between a STEN, MP40 and M1A1 Thompson, on full auto in burst firing, I achieved more hits on target at 25yrds with the STEN than either the MP40 or Thompson (I will say that it was a Canadian Long Branch manufactured one though, which were much better put together than any of the ROF made ones)
However, I think if my life depended on carrying one of them, I'd still choose the MP40 or the Thompson though
Saw a police firearm just now in Manchester (the 1st anniversary of the Mcr bombing) I hadn't seen before: a suppressed semi-auto 7.62 NATO with a bipod on the front.
A google up of UK police weapons and it looks like it might have been a HK417. Nice of them to use a suppressor to protect the hearing of the general public in the event of a tricky situation.
I've sometimes wondered what range the police zero their rifles, esp ones like the HK G36 where the sight must be a good 4 inches above the bore and is likely to be used at short range. Anybody know?

Do we even know which load he was using, bullet weight, powder charge to even start such a calculation, bullet coefficient ?
He didn’t even appear to use any sort of device to make sure it was shooting straight up his phone would have worked so we don’t even know starting angle and that’s got to make a large difference.
Don't think it will make much difference if it isn't straight up. The cosine of a small angle off vertical is still almost 1.0, e.g. if he was off vertical by 12 degrees, which would be visibly on the pi*s in a major way, the bullet will still have almost 98% of the vertical velocity as if it was exactly vertical: cosine(12 deg) = 0.978. It would land quite a way downrange though as sin(12 deg) = 0.21He didn’t even appear to use any sort of device to make sure it was shooting straight up his phone would have worked so we don’t even know starting angle and that’s got to make a large difference.
For the other stuff, you can just use default values for a 50BMG from a ballistics calculator. The reducing air density with altitude would make more of a difference imho.

Loving my beretta 1301
Nice, is yours a Section 1? Is there a minimum barrel length with a S1 shotgun? The 417 is used in the DMR / "Rifle Officer" role.
That said there are actually very few police officers trained to shoot long distances. The Rifle Officer is the one who usually carries the 7.62 rifle and they can shoot out to 500 yards or so however they are only assessed to 300m currently.
I am sure some units somewhere might have something with a bit more poke, 300 Win Mag or something but who knows....
As for zero it will be different for every platform.
Your normal armed officer with a patrol rifle such as an AR will usually not have glass on their rifle only a 1 power holographic. They are usually, as far as I know, zeroed as per the manufacturers guide lines for .223 which for eotech is 25 meters. This will give you shots on humanoid targets out to 200 yards within 3 inch group with no hold over. That said seen more and more ACOGs around and more 3 x magnifiers too.
I think we will slowly see the G36C phased out in place of the Defender or maybe the Sig 516. I think a few forces have already done so.

Yes section 1 9+1 I belive minimum barrel length is 24 inches.
Taken up practical shotgun. Bit different from just shooting paper.
Tested it with slug put a 4 inch group and 50 meters.
Not bad for no real rear sight.
Shoots fast hurts should. All good.

My brother's a police AFO and he has the 516 carbine, they've had them for a while in our force. Prior to that it was H&K MP5 I think. They can specialise in rifles if they wish, they get used a lot on Royals/VIP visits etc so there are quite a few of them on the dept these days. The prospect of being sat for days in the rain, on a roof don't appeal to me though I must say ? I couldn't tell you what they use other than we see them carrying very long cases out of the vans.

Went to buy one German WW2 rifle and did a deal on sort of two.
Mauser K98 is a 1937 S/42 model with all numbers matching bar the woodwork which is the same year but different number.
Got the practically new GSG Stg-44 for £240 with a spare 24rnd mag, which when the mags seem to be selling for £60+ seems like a pretty good deal.

Looks like a nice early date walnut furniture Oberndorf made K......very nice if matching as well. Need to find an original sling for that one.
I'm on the hunt for a K98 as well at the moment to sit next to my StG.44 as well
Mags are hard to come by at the moment....I actually managed to pick up the last 3 that Portsmouth Gun Shop had in stock at the Phoenix meet last year, and £40 each as well.
The StG.44's are so much fun, I hardly get to shoot mine as once I take it out every other bugger in the club wants a go....!!!
I only run Minimag through mine, as have found it to be quite ammo fussy. You need to use the infamous 'HK slap' technique as well on the charging handle, as they missfeed you if baby it.
Enjoy
