Hm, actually looking at it, the trigger group on the Vickers is miles away from this.
Could be an air rifle you know,,,, we need more pics...

Why anyone would go to the trouble of hiding an air rifle in a wall cavity is beyond me though.

I'll get some more pics tomorrow.

My dad found it yesterday built-in a stud wall void at home.
Woah fu ck that mate. Could have been used for anything. Ring the cops, don't touch it any further.

Tell them exactly what happened and let them come and get it.

Absolutely.......... being in possession of a Section 5 firearm, and thats what that will be classed as, is 5+ years inside........and posting the evidence on social media, also wasn't a smart move.
Call Plod and explain immediately ....before its too late.

Can anybody help id this please............

based on the picture I see the gun is a chinese made underlever air rifle - a pic from the other side (side view) would allow me to confirm this 100% under the firearms act the gun is an airrifle and as such no certificate would be required. Its extremey unlikely that the air rifle would be powerful enough to require a firearms certificate - it will be of poor quality when compared to european made stuff. It is NOT a Bofors or anything like that !

Why was this rifle [section 5 or air rifle] hidden in a wall; just an odd thing to do.

Even if it is an air rifle, you won't be wrong to contact the police / firearms dept, at least they can tell you what it maybe or retain it if it has been used for the wrong reasons.

Other than that it looks like scrap.

I think some have been mislead because there isn't anything in the photo to give it scale other than the stairs, but if you take into account the width of a standard staircase, it won't seem quite so scary...

What's this nonsense? Don't newspapers check their facts, at all, before publication?

Maybe I should get into journalism, if you can get paid to write drivel like that, it seems like a 'no brainer' biggrin

More of the same at the BBC, which is par for the course these days:

Had a couple of lessons now and my Certificate came through last week.

My teacher, Brett, at Deeside (North Wales) Shooting school is excellent and one of the other member of staff was telling me he shoots for England or the UK and is Top 10 in the country, so nice to know he walks the walk.

Looks like I will be picking up my first gun this week too a Bettinsoli X-Trail Colour Hardened 12G smile brand new with 3 years warranty for under £900!

He is a cracking chap, has shot for England.
If I were spending £900 on my first gun I would make it a Second hand Miruko/Browning/Beretta as you will want to change sooner rather than later and you will loose cash on the Bettinsoli and loose next to nothing on the Second Hand Mirook's/Browning's or Beretta's.

Either way enjoy your shooting and keep seeing Mr Davies.

I have another lesson Friday!

I shot a browning 325 and it felt old and clunky so I would discount them.

The SP I tried needed a longer stock and to be honest I haven’t seen one anywhere near my price at the shooting school (1.2k+), thenones around my budget are pushing 25 years old.

If I pay £800 and it lasts me three years with a £250 trade in ... then that isn’t bad value in my eyes!

I will keep looking anyway smile

I hope to be in the same situation very soon.
Today is 2 weeks since the firearms officer came to see me. I have been checking the post everyday like a school kid waiting for exam results.

I want to try and find a kind that can do everything. I am sure in time, that will change.
A guy I follow on Instagram did a rather good post about first time guns and one of the recommended ones was a Beretta 680 (which when I looked, it would seem the 686 is the main choice?). Can someone here testify if this is a good all rounder?

Here is the original wording,

A question I am often asked is what shotgun to go for as a beginner! So I have compiled a short list of 8 guns that are definitely worth a punt and at under the £1000 Mark. First up is The workhorse of the Beretta line, the 680 series possibly the most successful over and under shotgun ever built, exceptional quality and a great second hand value retainer, built to last. Expect to pay in the region of £800 for a good one! Next we have Bettinsoli a good quality middle of the road starter, multichoke as standard, middle weight sporter, a good game or competition gun at entry level, expect to pay around £500 for a good second hand model. Next up is the Lincoln in the same category for quality as the bettinsoli and around the same money another well equipped starter! Next up the Nikko 5200 an old favourite of mine "I've had two" great guns at exceptional quality, its basicly the same gun as a Browning superimposed no messing hard hitter expect to pay between £450 -£700 dependent on the grade and condition. Next up the legendary Winchester 101 not much today can rival this gun, and in my opinion is pure genius, with a rep that's lasted since the 60s expect to pay any where in the region of £400-1000 dependent on the grade and condition. The Browning B323 and the Miroku 3800 are legendary guns standing the test of time both competitively and in the field, these are both direct competitors in quality and price many of which are from the late 80s to the early 90s it says a lot for the model. Expect to pay in the region of £500-800 for a good to exellent one. Next the good old Lanber sporter always been a great entry level gun no frills but it works and will keep on working. Again in the price range of the bettinsoli and the Lincoln £500 Will get you a good one. These are all guns that will last and will serve you well, if it was me starting out again I'd be picking from this list. .

I started with a Lanber Gold Sporter about 7 years ago and wouldn’t swap it for anything. Great fit for me (vital), good length barrels and not too fussy that I’m worried about taking it in the fields.

The only trouble is that it hardly ever comes out since I got my FAC five years ago as my rifle shooting takes most of my attention in spare time now.
