Got a bit of a dilemma and need some advice...
I’ve been invited as a guest to a driven day on Wednesday. It’s the gamekeepers day that the estate gives him as part of his compensation package (not beaters day, that is next week). The keeper has invited me because I’ve given him loads of pre-season help this year, putting pens up, feeding, dogging in etc, and I ran the beating line for him one shoot day when he couldn’t make it. So he’s giving me a peg on his day in addition to beaters day which I always get invited to by virtue of my regular beating work,
So the question is,,,,,,should I tip him? I’m very happy to do so and I’m not trying to wriggle out of it at all, I’m more unsure if he might be offended if I try to press a tip into his hand at the end of a day that he is giving me as a thankyou for all of my help.
Thoughts?

If refuses then say you appreciate that, shake hands end of chat.

Problem was they wanted a 3 month probation, not six and a set amount of visits which i just wouldn’t have been able to fit in 3 months. I asked if they would extend probation to 6 months they wouldn’t.
Their range their rules only take me an hour to get there too have to wait till i retire.
And then shooters/clubs etc moan that there's only us old gits shooting..... Their range their rules only take me an hour to get there too have to wait till i retire.
When I joined I was told they shoot Sat and Wed evenings. I was very keen on the Wednesday slot as that would give me some range time mid week and an option to Saturday, due to possible family arrangements interfering. During the first week of probation I asked about the following Wednesday to be told 'we only shoot from 0900-1300 on Wednesdays and it isn't very popular' - no sheet Sherlock? Saturdays they don't shoot all day and prefer 0830-1300.
Most of the shooters are therefore....retired.
was out on my bike at the weekend down somerset devon border when noticed a line of pegs in the field next door, lovely wooded valley with the birds (hopefully) coming off the top.
waited for the beat to start, first bird lovely throught eh middle of the line, then curled and ran along the guns. No joke an artillery barrage of 12 shots! every one missed and amusingly the end gun shouted to mark the bird..
funny stuff

End of season dinner tomorrow night. Black tie and "pass the Port".
It's the best meal of the year and ends the season on a high note.
Sunday will be spent cleaning and repairing kit. The 20bore Beretta will be polished up and put away till October.
Here's till next year...…………….
Oh, the Barbour needs renovating, I'll send it off next week.

I couldn't not shoot all year! Don't you miss getting out there? It's the best meal of the year and ends the season on a high note.

Surrey police have had my shotgun licence now for 6 months just to process a change of address. Apparently it's "with the firearms officer" and I just have to wait. Makes life a bit tricky when I have to present the original licence to participate at certain venues. Sigh.
That's appalling.I've just renewed my certificate with zero changes required.
Sent off in October for a 04 Feb expiry/renewal, it finally arrived last week. Got me a bit twitchy, but at least I was allowed to keep the old/current one while they sorted it out.
I also don't think they liked my photo much - they just used the old one and sent the new one back. Six quid wasted....

Bleedin 'ell.........I thought Surrey were supposed to be quite good in comparison to others, but clearly not!!6 months for change of address is laughable, but how are you still shooting anyway, or rather where are you keeping the gun(s) as change of address implies another home visit to check security in new address prior to issue of changed SGC or is this only with FAC's.....?
You should be keeping your SGC / FAC for a simple change of address.
The FEO should hand deliver your new one and take your old one back.
That's certainly the way its been done with me on more than one occasion.
The FEO also has to verify your new address and security arrangements in person, so its all generally done at the same time.

I sent both shotgun and FAC licences into Wiltshire Police to change address, add a shotgun and add two variations to my FAC and the service was fantastic. I sent them on Wednesday, they called me on Thursday to confirm the details and the licences were back in my hand on Friday.
Yep, my mate moved out of the Met and down to Wilts a couple of years ago, and says Wilts have been brilliant. To be fair the Met have been really good as well, and I'm dreading changing over to Thames Valley when I move out of London to Berkshire.
I've recently bought into a clay syndicate, I now own a 1/7th share of 9 clay traps and a storage container. We all pay a fiver a week to rent the field, and 100 clays each costs another fiver. It's suddenly got much cheaper to go shooting (man maths excludes the cost of buying into the syndicate).
