Lantac look to do some lovely rifles but only in .223.
Blaser for sporting LMT I think it is for a tactical look, mate of mine has one and the quality is superbLantac look to do some lovely rifles but only in .223.
I would be very grateful for some guidance as to a suitable mid-range shotgun, please. Mixture of game and clays (mostly game).
I am looking for a 12-bore side by side, budget around £1,500-2k. Local gun-shop recommended something like a AYA No.4 boxlock but prices seem to vary significantly. Are there any other suggestions? Will probably be used for 4-5 days a year.
Thanks in advance.

I'm using a Winchester select sporting 2 and love it. Can be had new within your budget or there is one for sale on SD just now for £650.I am looking for a 12-bore side by side, budget around £1,500-2k. I have the one with "extra wood" so basically a hard wearing laminated stock. Looks lovely as well.
It fitted me perfectly and this is where the advice takes over from recommendations , you have to buy a gun that FITS YOU. That is the most important advice you'll get about shotguns.
No point buying a 10k work of art that doesn't fit you when you'll hit everything better with a 500 quid job that fits you perfectly.

I am certainly going to get it professionally fitted, but it is useful to have some pointers to where to start....!
I also really want something that is going to last well - I am happy to spend more if that represents better "value".

An AYA number for is not really suitable for a regular clay shooter, its a great traditonal game gun for someone that does not want to spend a lot and stand on a peg a few times a year. For clays once or more a month a decent over under will be much better for you. I would look at a Beretta silver pigeon game gun, ukltralite game gun or maybe a Browning 425/525 game gun all should be in your budget and will hold their value better in medium to long term unless you buy the AYA right. A servicable number 4 should cost you from £400 in todays market but you are right spec and location of seller can make a huge difference.I am looking for a 12-bore side by side, budget around £1,500-2k. Better to try and get one that fits as best as possible 'out of the box' than spend significant extra money on custom fitting (unless you are an odd shape/size etc)Go to the nearest and biggest dealer to you (or go to a big game fair) and try all sorts of stuff for best fit (not looks etc)

I looked for a side by side for a while and most older stuff and clays didn’t mix as they were not reliable enough for 100 birds every time I go. I ended up buying a new beretta 486 pralello which is amazing and all the gun I will ever need
Worth having a look but maybe a little over budget

Thanks for the guidance - really only looking for a side-by-side.
With respect, you are closing your mind to 50pc of the available shotguns which would suit you.S/Ss are normally fixed chokes for game use. O/Us are invariably multi-chokes which means you can tailor your gun to the particular shooting you are doing.

Just been through this with a fellow FAC club member that has decided he fancied joining a few of us doing clays as well. Has been borrowing a mate's old Lincoln o/u and been doing OK with that, not brilliant but OK. But, has it in his mind that he wants a s/s traditional, but hasn't been listening to the fact that he's not going to be shooting game.
So, he's just bought this 1920's/30's era estate s/s for £400, double trigger, very light, way too short for him (and it's already been stock extended, not to mention its been sleeved) and not surprisingly, he can't hit st with it, plus after 10 quick clays, his fingers are being burnt on the barrels......
Hey ho
I'm with you Will...if a SxS is what you want go and find one that fits and you like..I have two classic Browning OU's for clay's but had to scratch the itch of a SxS for some clay busting too. My SxS is not ideal some would say at 3/4 and full choke but it fits, is pretty and smashes clay's with ease.. Here she is..
buy one and have fun...
