I had the same thought. I fired 6 and went back to .357

These .460 and .500 revolvers nobody can actually enjoy them. That demolition ranch guy hates his.

There's a survival version of the .500, in an orange case with orange grips. Meant for bush pilots in case they come down in the wilderness and need a defensive against bears or light armored vehicles.

Only use case that makes sense.

Excepting the vehicle bit.

Still don't think that case makes much sense really, they'd be better off with one of these in .44mag on board, easier to shoot with much better control and at better ranges, with less experience and 10 rds in the tube as well.

I didn't say it made a lot of sense....

I remember apocryphal accounts of aircrew carrying .44 Magnums in Korea in case they got shot down and met the entire Chinese army standing in line.

I meant to mention; trip to Cabelas above, in the used section, the most interesting weapon they had there was the Henry AR7. Didn't think to check the price, alas.

Collecting my Tikka T1x in 22lr on Thursday.

Jobs to do this week so will need to be set up and running by Thursday afternoon.

Nice wee gun at not bad money.

B252 SL is being a pain to source so am scrapping that idea and getting somit else instead, not sure what yet.

Back in the good old days, I've shot full on .44mag from a S&W Model 29, and I found it quite unpleasant, and frankly pointless, as all I could think of was ...... err, why?
.44spl was much nicer to shoot from a M29, as it allowed some degree of ability to hit a target at 25yrds, which is kind of the whole point.
Mind you, I never liked revolvers, just never really fitted my hands and always found the higher line if action harder to control than most semi-auto's.
Shooting factory ammo from a .44 at a target is a bit pointless unless you are:

a) very, very far away from the target
or
b) think 'bigger is always better'

There was a competitor in practical pistol back in the day who used to compete with a .44 Desert Eagle (from memory).
He wore a T-shirt which said "Chrono my loads!" on the back.

There is a slight advantage to be had shooting bullseye targets with a .44 if you home load. A 'soft' load can be very accurate and manageable and the advantage is you're making a bigger hole in the target than a .38, so you can end up with more shots being counted in if they cut a scoring line.

That has come in handy a few times when scoring in my clubs gallery comps biggrin but it wasn't the reason I chose to buy an underlever in .45LC rather than one in .38/.357.

I am lucky my club does lever action at 300-400 a few times a year so we can use the full potential of the bigger rifles.

Glock 29 would be a much better choice.

There was a study recently in caliber and effect in bears.
Iirc even 9mm did the job.

Video on bullet performance and testing seems reasonable. I don’t necessarily agree for a few reasons but what do I know so I will defer to these guys.

I did some long range shooting at Bisley the other weekend (up to 1,200 yards) with the Winchester P14 in 7.62 Nato. This weekend, all being well, we are shooting at shorter ranges, 100-300 yards so I am planning to take the Martini Henry, Mosin, AK and for a bit of fun a couple of .22LR. I can't wait!

I used to shoot air guns when I was a kid, but not for many years. I’m interested in buying a workmanlike spring action .22 with a scope for small pest control (rural location) and perhaps for introducing my own boys safely to guns.

What is the BMW 330i of the airgun world? Well made, few frills, enough power, relatively discreet, will last a long time etc... The airgun equivalent of the Silver Pigeon..???

No particular budget in mind, but I’d prefer to buy well in the first instance.

Thanks in advance.

I always equate Weihrauch to BMW.

An HW95 or HW80 (both break barrel) or HW77 or HW97 (both under lever) should fit the bill. Other than that, maybe an AirArms TX200 or ProSport?

TX200 all day long, fabulously accurate, very tuneable, and cheap like the budgie.......

Adored mine, had a Tinbum kit and mildot scope, could hit chalk targets at 40 odd yards....

all at 11.7 ft/lbs

.44 Special was developed by Smith & Wesson in the early 1900's for their new revolver design.

In the 1950's, Remington developed the .44 Magnum which was the .44 Special but in a longer case to allow increased loadings from more powder. You can use .44 Special in a .44 Magnum revolver (as per Dirty Harry) but you can't fire .44 Mag from a revolver chamber for .44 Special.

.44 Magnum on the left, .44 Special on the right

AIUI the HW95 is light, so good for kids, but as a result quite hold sensitive as the weight and movement of the spring throws the gun round.

HW95 is also a break barrel and wont be a s accurate as something like a TX underlever..... YMMV Obvs.....

Tx200 is a tad heavy and maybe a little fiddly to load, but thats the the only -ve's.

Plus its cheap and available used.....

Prosport is over priced and over rated IMVHO

MAIN POINT OF SELLING BELGIAN FIVE SEVEN PISTOL IS EXTREME PRICE OF WEAPON AND CARTRIDGE.

BELGIAN FIVE SEVEN IS WEAPON OF MAN WHO WEARS EXPENSIVE ITALIAN FASCIST SUIT OF HAND SEWING, DRIVE HUGE NAZI MERCEDES OF A.M.G. SHOP, SAIL ON MASSIVE YACHT TO GREEK ISLANDS. I THINK YOU GET PICTURE. BELGIAN FIVE SEVEN IS WEAPON THAT SAYS IS NO SUCH THING AS CONCERN OF MONEY.

FOR MAN WITHOUT EXPENSIVE SUIT, BIG BLACK MERCEDES, AND MASSIVE YACHT, BELGIAN FIVE SEVEN IS FOR PRETENDING TO BE RICH LIKE BLACK GANGSTER OF AMERICAN CITY WITH GOLD CHAINS OF LOW QUALITY AND JEWELS OF COLORED GLASS. WHEN YOU EXPLAIN USE OF BELGIAN FIVE SEVEN PISTOL IS ONLY FOR SHOOT MAN WITH BULLET VEST WITH CARTRIDGE ILLEGAL TO CIVILIAN. THIS MAN HAS NUCLEAR RAGE WHOLE IDENTITY OF THIS MAN IS SPENT IN PRETEND PISTOL SHOWS HE IS RICH. IS VERY AMUSE.

FOR REST OF WORLD THERE IS 9 MILIMETERS OF LUGER WHICH IS SAME WOUND FOR LESS COST.
