The PH Gun Cabinet - Shooting Matters
Discussion
I'm just about to order some accessories for my AR:
Charging handle with extended latch from Strike Industries
Enhanced AR Magazine Release from Magpul
Battery Assist Device Lever (also from Magpul)
The last one enables you to manipulate the bolt stop using your trigger finger so you can keep your hand on the grip.

As a lefty....not sure about the BAD lever. I've got one, sort of like it. Also sort of like the maritime bolt catch. Probably need to use both more and work out which I prefer.
There's use cases for both for me - the MBT can be operated left handed 90% of the time, but occasionally it's awkward to release the bolt with your index finger.
BAD lever works all the time, but isn't quite as convenient.
I've an ambi-mag release, prefer it to the magpul offering. Basically the left side pivots so you can use it as a button as well as the button.
Running a radian raptor LT ambi charging handle; works for me.
r/gundeals is you friend.

Finally got the sights for my second Glock.
I have to say, though I understand most of you would be fortunate enough not to experience this - drifting in a Glock rear sight is a fking pain in the arse.
This time round I was more prepared, but it still got stuck half way in, requiring having the st beaten out of it with a mallet to remove, much filing and cursing.
Pics in a bit once I've recovered.
Upper for the second AR turned up this week too.
This promoted some side by side testing, with interesting results.
As a lefty, an ambi charging handle and safety are absolutely mandatory; it's practically unusable without them.
The bolt control however, is most natural and practical as standard, with my left index finger.
Mag controls are then best left at standard to minimize the risk of dropping a mag.
It's like Eugene Stoner designed it almost perfectly for lefties... With the exception of the election port on the right.
The design process seems to have started with the ejection port on the right for right handed shooters, necessitating the bolt controls on the left side (perfect for lefties), then the magazine controls have to be on the right to separate them.
Then a brass deflector is added because a couple of people get hit.... and it's nearly perfect for a lefty.
Second ambi charging handle on order as a result.
Pics again in a bit.

So, the pistol collection:
The more awake of you will have noticed the presence of the AR and thought 'what a plonker, he's included a rifle, too'.
The slightly more astute will have thought 'well it is small bore, it practically is a pistol'.
Others will have thought 'more plastic crap'.
The cognoscenti will have groaned and thought 'US gun laws, as stupid as they are lenient'.
That is indeed an AR-15 pistol. Barrel length of less than 16"(10.5", about as short as it can be and still cycle reliably), overall length of less than 26", so it either has to be registered as a short barreled rifle(SBR), or some hoops have to be jumped though to get round it. In this case, it has to not have a stock (that's an arm brace, not a stock!), and can't have a vertical front grip (see, it's not quite vertical). The main use of these loopholes seems to be to be able to use it until you register it as an SBR, which I'm slowly deciphering the paperwork for.
Under a sig romeo 5 I picked up for ~$90 last year and didn't have a use for until now. Magpul back up iron sights.
I had the receiver pre-quarantine, and was intending to build it up as a 20" heavy barrel, but overnight the entire country went out of stock of pretty much everything mainstream, so I got what was available; AR pistols are pretty niche.
For the P80's, the G17(bigger one) is the new one. It's in the 'aggressive' texture which was specific to a particular manufacturer - they sold the 80% receivers off, so I picked one up cheap. It's in 'Sniper grey' - I know, I know, but limited stock, so I got this. The slide is tungsten grey, close enough so it's not too glaring. Cheapest barrel ($50) and thread protector($2), on discounted receiver, with cheapest slide (~$120) I could find.
The G19 is olive drab, I've covered it previously in this thread.

Someone I know in the USA has recently acquired a SBR reg semi-auto Thompson 'SMG'.red_slr said:
If you can Jimmy push your RDS so the front of it is level with the front of the ejection port. Might take a bit of getting used too but you ideally want it a bit further forward.
Thanks. I've been debating placement of it, wasn't sure quite what to do there. Will have a play and see how I get on.aeropilot said:

The 'legal' / non-SBR versions of that look bloody odd. It's almost a requirement to SBR and get the period look.jimmyjimjim said:

Both the ergo and the B5 grips were about $8 each(r/gundeals), nothing lost. The magpul is the clear winner.
Last post for...well, today at least.
This isn't finished yet either, but it's a bit of fun:
Ruger 10/22 with a Nikon 2-7x32 BDC scope.
Started out as a Ruger 10/22 model 31145, which is the cheapest 10/22 you can get, with a vile grey plastic stock. I think the intent is that you replace the stock. So I did - Magpul X22 hunter, which is actually usable, unlike the grey thing, which was very small.
Now this really IS a lot of plastic
I'm going to put a sling and a magpul bipod on it eventually, and acquire a couple of 25 round mags, but no rush.

Do you have anything non plastic? I realise they are mainly "toys" but just asking as I have a bias towards wood. Just love your Glocks, miss living in the States for this reason alone. This isn't finished yet either, but it's a bit of fun:

I'm spending money rather than shooting in readiness for when we can.
Ordered a T38 led lamp for the rimfire which came yesterday. Nice package for lamping with.
Also ordered a lucky 13 magazine conversion /bottom plate and 10 shot mag for my Remington 700 as the std spring box is faffy in the dark I find and doesn't always feed smoothly

Well I got bored the other day so been watching lots of videos on YouTube. Was the anniversary of the mimi shootout, watched some documentary’s On it.
Got the 590 out and tried aiming with one arm and racking with one hand fk that while being shot at.
Then tried quad loading the 1301 damn that’s a skill the perishes quickly. Put them away and decided to take up knitting.

At last, a thread that discusses guns without being a "gun control" debate place. Am I correct in assuming this without having to read 200+ pages???
If so, I have a collection of far more guns that I can rightfully use (I am in the U.S.). Are gun pics allowed or is that a rule breaker?

Thankfully, the antis seem to avoid this thread. Maybe they're scared by all the guns on show! (have a look through the thread and you'll see there are plenty of pix here) If so, I have a collection of far more guns that I can rightfully use (I am in the U.S.).
