Can you do this with clay or do you get put with other people?
Depends on the venue. Some places have delay settings on the trap controls so you can set a 5 or maybe 10 sec delay say, and then press the button yourself, and then have time to prepare and shoot. If the venue doesn't have this function, then you need someone else to trigger the traps for you, so not easy to shoot solo.
Find a local ground that uses the Claymate (or similar) system, and you can solo all day. Great if you can go midweek, as you invariably have the whole ground to yourself...

The only problem I find with self buttoning is the rude twts who encroach and breath down your neck whilst chattering away. Having a buttoner keeps a distance between you and anyone waiting. Perhaps there are some upsides to COVID.

My local grounds have voice activated traps. If the venue doesn't have this function, then you need someone else to trigger the traps for you, so not easy to shoot solo.
You shout Pull, clay appears!

Cheers for all the above advice boys.
I'll be looking at anywhere in lancashire, so if anyone knows any venues round here that operate claymate and let you shoot solo, that'd be grand. Id like to get into this and i'd love to have my own cabinet and guns one day.
Well, as you clearly don't yet have a SGC, then finding somewhere where you can shoot solo isn't something to worry about until you have you're own SGC and gun, as shooting solo won't be something you'll be doing until you do.I'll be looking at anywhere in lancashire, so if anyone knows any venues round here that operate claymate and let you shoot solo, that'd be grand. As above you will need to book in a 1 hour supervised session. Its £75.
They also offer a 5 visit package for non SGC holders which is £400 which includes come classroom stuff plus quite a bit of practical training.
(I have no affiliation to the above just a former member)
Could I ask your advice on the following please?
I am meeting some friends to do some crop protection later today. I forgot that I have an osteopath appointment just before, meaning I need to go straight to the field after the appointment.
I realise neither of these are ideal.
Should I leave my gun in the car whilst in my appointment or should I take my gun into the appointment in its slip?
Due to covid, there is only going to be the osteopath and myself in the building.
Or are these both too risky and I should cancel one of them?
Thanks
Andy

Remove your bolt and take it with you.
Firearm should be in the boot covered and in its case / slip.
If possible take ammunition with you or leave it in a locked container.
If possible park the car in a car park with CCTV or in a very public place.
If you have done all the above you have taken reasonable steps to secure the firearm and even if it was stolen you have done the best you can.
Wandering round with a rifle is not a good idea unless you have a take down or a shorty which you can break down into a normal bag. I have a "sneaky bag" from the US for rare times when I need to get out of the car with the rifle but it only works because my AR is a 12".
