Is anyone on here affected by the 2020 Lever release / MARS rifle surrender ?

Compensation figures are as follows:

£1950 for the MARS.
£2362 for the .45ACP
£2240 for the 9mm
£4445 for the 223
£5105 for the .308

Plus you can claim for sights and extras that you have done to the rifle like fore ends, magazines, trigger work etc.
stty that we are having to hand in legally held sporting firearms as part of the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 which was supposed to target knife crime and corrosive substances.

It's Durham.

Seems I spoke too soon, I rang them today just to sort out the new GP details and when I asked about timelines they said about 6 months?

If they've already done referees and GP inside of a fortnight, what on earth can take another 5 months?
GMP took 11 months to process my grant. Unfortunately you just have to suck it up - they won't be hurried.

Thanks for the warning!!
I would say, for him to use the Bisley facilities to have a few lessons and find out if he likes it or adapts to it (it can be a frustrating shooting sport at first if you have spent many years shooting at stationary paper targets wink)

He can always look for a club later on if he thinks it is something he wants to get into deeper.
Well, since June there's been some progress....

SGC has been applied for - s/h cabinet has been sourced and secured - he's started lessons at NCSC

Bisley is only 15 minutes away so it made sense to have lessons there and see how he gets on. Once we have the paperwork we can use the pay and play or find another club locally.

I need some help with steel shot cartridges please.

I have been invited to a duck flighting shoot. It will be over an inland pond, where I will need Steel Shot. I have only shot on driven stuff and pigeons before, so this is new to me.
Looking on justcartridges, there seem to be quite a few options.

I am going to use my Franchi Affinity one, which can take a 3" cartridge, but I am struggling to find many options for these. Most of them seem to have plastic wads. Which seems a bit strange.

Thanks
Andy

I assume you have verified that it the gun is proofed for use of steel shot...?

I did check that.

"All Affinity shotguns are superior steel proofed and are available with 28" multichoke barrel (supplied with 3 chokes)."

I was told they use plastic wads to keep the shot away from the bore. Direct contact between steel shot and a steel barrel is not a good thing.
The other reason is that lead shot will compress slightly as it goes through a choke; steel won't.

if that is true, then littering the countryside with plastic wads sounds far worse than lead shot to me...

Strip it of anything of value that can be sold on, load it up with cheap Chinese replacement airsoft parts, then paint the bright pink or baby blue and hand it in.

First bit of propaganda spat out by a police firearms unit:

https://twitter.com/DorPol_POPS/status/13391772637...

Hope that wasn't a genuine EO Tech on it, otherwise the owner just made a mistake handing it in with the gun.

Shape of the hood looks right, but no markings (wear?) and the battery compartment looks wrong (too short for AAs, wrong shape for CR123). I'd guess at knockoff, but it's difficult to tell from a picture.

What's with the charging handle half out.....

Doesn't look like the Twitter fest is going the way that they hoped.

Pity that absolutely no media will pick up on this and ask exactly what benefit this removal of legally held firearms from properly authorised owners has in "removing offensive weapons from the streets".

They’ve already removed all the dangerous weapons off the street

Is this real? Someone isn't taking the mick? The police really posted that? A bicycle wheel and a pair of pliers? The kind of scissors my 8 year old uses?

Don't forget that it's not the Police posting, rather some dim-witted huggy-fluffy PR type civvie staff that posts crap like this, and brings forth ridicule on Forces, with the opposite effect of the PR-spin that the idiot is hoping to achieve with such posts.
