Still no closer to my SGC
Asked for an update the other day..... apparently they have everything they need from me, reference checks/medical etc, I'm just in a queue waiting for background checks before the FEO gets in touch for an interview.
Significant delays at background check stage apparently and may not be in touch for some time
Same here, it is all online and the system says in progress, I guess it will happen when lockdown ends! - I managed to get my cabinet fitted so waiting for Park Lodge to open and get some more lessons in and hopefully try the Browning 525 as been using the Beretta SP3 on previous lessons.Asked for an update the other day..... apparently they have everything they need from me, reference checks/medical etc, I'm just in a queue waiting for background checks before the FEO gets in touch for an interview.

How'd you find the Beretta? I was using a 69...2 I think on my lessons. Was OK, hit more than I thought, but it gave me a sore cheek after a while as the stock jumped slightly.....I have a sore cheek bone for days afterwards
I've tried a Browning 725 which seems to fit better, so I have a deposit down on one at my local RFD and will collect when I (eventually) get my SGC.

It was ok but I am not experienced enough to know what is good or not and the previous guns I have shot was a long time ago, my instructor did say the fit was not perfect but as I am fairly new to this it was ok for now. Is there any reason you went for a 725 over a 525?I've tried a Browning 725 which seems to fit better, so I have a deposit down on one at my local RFD and will collect when I (eventually) get my SGC.

It just felt right. I'd shot the Beretta a bit then went gun shopping, tried a few guns, lots of staring at objects on the wall.... mounting the gun while looking at the object and then seeing if the gun was aiming at it, etc. Just seemed the most natural.I'm under no illusion that after getting more experience I might find something that fits even better, but as a beginner I guess you have to start somewhere If I have to change it in a year then so be it.
Oh and I also think it looks pretty good!

Great, I am looking forward to getting my license and trying a few guns, I have a few good shops linked with grounds within 30 minutes or so. Problem will be man maths and creep(without telling the wife)!!!!!I'm under no illusion that after getting more experience I might find something that fits even better, but as a beginner I guess you have to start somewhere If I have to change it in a year then so be it.

That is down to gun fit - your head isn’t right down on the stock when you fire.

Been trying various Beretta, but ended up with sore cheek as well, as they just didn't fit me, then borrowed a 525, which I just jelled with, as fitted much better out of the box, and no sore cheeks...so realised it was going to be a Browning.
I managed to try the 725 Black Edition just before going to buy a 525, and I just found the 725 that little bit more comfortable, grip wise, with the extra palm swell grip of the 725. I've got long hands/fingers, and the extra palm swell just sat nicer in my hand than the 525.
I've had my 725 for nearly 5 years now - with no plan to change it.

I have never fired a Browning. Every time I pick one up in a shop, they just seem so bulky compared to Beretta.
Maybe I am missing out on something great, heh!
I definitely agree, trying one after the other in the shop the Berettas definitely felt more agile and the Browning more bulky as you say. But the 725 always seemed to be pointing where I wanted it to on mounting, where as the Berettas felt 'loose'.Maybe I am missing out on something great, heh!
See how it goes when I can go out and shoot it!
That's a lovely gun, I hope you get out to shoot it soon.
And whilst the rugby is on and England are being trounced by the sheep farmers, the guns we buy are the good looking girls from the local pub, not prawn stars.

we'll never dream of holding, pulling the right levers or making a big bang.

I wouldn't dare touch any of the levers if it was worth £200k!
A gun costing quarter of a million quid is indeed something special to handle. The young lad who works at my RFD used to work for Boss & Co for a couple of years, and was manning their stand at the Shooting Show a few years back and a few of us scruffy 'erberts walked over to say hello, and he pulls out this just finished gun from a cabinet and hands it around for us to have a fondle. The look on the face of his boss on the stand was a picture....as the look on ours probably was when he said, it was £225,000....and had taken 3 years to make.
The balance of it though was something to behold.

Out of the blue my local FEO rang me this morning and asked if I was in today! visit has now happened, he is happy with my cabinet fitting skills so all is good, he said it will take up to 8 weeks for my license to arrive - a very pleasant experience.I've tried a Browning 725 which seems to fit better, so I have a deposit down on one at my local RFD and will collect when I (eventually) get my SGC.
