mix or 21 and 24, plus slipping the odd 32/5 into my partners barrels for a surprise
:-)I've some 50gr BB for geese which would be a fun reaction if not expected!
Obviously I tried again and was rewarded with another 64 gram shoulder punch.
Less fun.
Mended now and ready for the quarry!

Hi
After many years of wanting to start shooting I’ve booked some lessons at my local gun club and will apply for my licence when our house move is complete and I install a cabinet
Any hints or tips for a newbie?
If you know what your new address will be, can’t you apply for your shotgun certificate now? You don’t need a cabinet installed to apply (indeed, you don’t need a cabinet to be granted a certificate). They can take ages to come though, so best started sooner rather than later. After many years of wanting to start shooting I’ve booked some lessons at my local gun club and will apply for my licence when our house move is complete and I install a cabinet

After that, you are having lessons, which is great. Keep that up. Minimises bad habit formation!
If you want to buy something, I’d be tempted to get some decent electronic ear defenders. They make shooting more fun (you can hear your instructor/mates, you can often hear the trap/clay, etc) and will last you a long time, even as your shooting progresses.
Best advice for a newbie is to get the gun to fit you properly. Lessons after that!
The photo is of the missus at Doveridge on Sunday, it’s actually a slow motion video of her smashing clays, but the site won’t support a video!
EDIT; CLICK ON THE IMAGE AND IT TAKES YOU TO THE VIDEO
You can watch as she picks the clay up, follows it through, then adds lead and drop, she keeps the gun moving when taking the shot.
She sure can shoot. I tried to encourage her to join the popular ladies shooting clubs, but she say’s ‘they’re more about lip gloss and bun making, than smashing clays”. She once beat an ‘A’ gun at one of our local shoots. He was dead impressed…. Not.

We've got a couple of really good female shots in our club.
Shooting is after all one of the few genuine sport disciplines that both sexes can 'compete' on equal terms, and partners can enjoy together.

Purely hypothetically; if all calibres like 38/357 & 44 in revolver and gallery rifle were banned BUT you could have 22 without the 12 inch barrel and extension bar, would you be happy with that or would you want to keep your full size lbr and gallery rifle.?
No chance! My 1894 .44 is a glorious thing to shoot. I have a LBP in .22LR and frankly once you have it in your hand and you are shooting you dont notice the "coat hanger" or the longer barrel.
Just my 2ps worth.

I don't do LBR, as I can't be doing with the stupid barrels and coat hanger. Its NOT pistol shooting, and I'd rather shoot gallery with my 1873.Would the chance to shoot proper pistol comps again, even just with .22RF only, be enough to compensate for loss of pistol calibre in gallery rifle is a tough ask tbh.
after the tragic shooting spree in Plymouth i am concerned to see several news outlets especially the BBC are starting to question 'gun ownership and licencing'
whoever wrote the BBC article knows nothing
eg a farmer needs a shotgun to control foxes
nobody in their right mind (animal welfare etc) shoots foxes with a shotgun
i am sure there will be a proper investigation but news outlets should not prempt said investigation with their anti gun narrative

Sadly the BBC know exactly what they are doing. They did exactly the same post Hungerford and post Dunblane, and are whipping up their own agenda.whoever wrote the BBC article knows nothing
Sadly the BBC stopped being an impartial, only reporting the facts news organisation decades ago, and is purely a political tool........with its own agenda, which we are all forced to pay for.
