The PH Gun Cabinet - Shooting Matters
Discussion
No issues, just....dicking around, really.
I get on ok with the bolt catch as a lefty, it's quite natural. But it could be better. So I tried the magpul BAD lever...not an enormous fan, and I reached the conclusion that having something that's not a trigger inside the trigger guard was a bad idea. Something that I've since seen others say. So I removed it.
The Giessele Maritime bolt catch is touted as a replacement, and it addresses the issues I have with the standard one - it's not very tactile, the demarcation between the catch and release could be better. But it was damn near impossible to release with my index finger; some small change of geometry meant it was a lot more difficult to press. I suspect I could have stoned it and smoothed it out, but in all honesty, I couldn't be bothered to spend the effort.
So I'm trying this to see how it gets on.
The takedown pins were the only other thing the FCD sells that I could be bothered to try (they do actually sell snake oil....) and I'm ok with the standard ones, so I'll put them in at some point; quite a lot of pissing around to install them that I'm not currently in the mood for.

ABC installed. I like it; it's what the maritime bolt catch should have been, so it stays. Tactile, easy to find at operate. But...the rearwards biased version of the ABC would probably be perfect, so I'll order one of those when they're back in stock (this batch apparently sold out in 30 minutes).
I'd honestly google 'bad lever negligent discharge' before getting one and see what you think.
The bit of work I needed to do first thing didn't take as long as I expected it to, so I went and changed the front takedown pin (I've never removed one before, it turns out there's a hole in the pin for disassembly, making it a two-minute job).
So I replaced the rear pin too, which is more involved - break the bond on the castle nut, spin that off, pull the endplate, remove the set screw, spring and detent, then pull the old pin. All while making sure the detent doesn't disappear into the ether.
Nice, but not worth the money (well, duh).

Thanks for that it helps a bit im thinking its definitely a kynoch blank although there's no sign of a date mark unlike these ones ive got in the safe
And they are all royal ordnance factory Radway green dated 1962 with the L9Z making it a NATO mark nine nitrocellulose blank. One of my customers gave me them after he found out I had a firearms certificate, another elderly customer turned up with a box of 1940 dated live .303 rounds and got very tight lipped about why he had them! I gave them to my local dealer and we both wondered what he was doing in possibly the 40's to end up keeping a box of ammo!

According to the website you linked the two broad arrows started in 1907/08 when they dropped the C denoting cordite rounds as at that point they were all cordite,it seems to suggest a mark number would be on the case at five o'clock from the manufacturer stamp but to me the V is at six o'clock. Mind you I'm used to strange marks as on my Lee Enfield the star after the mark three has been struck through with two marks that look like a spear head and no one ive spoken two knows what they mean!
Yup, they are good watching, the no1, and if YouTube’s algorithm is right the others should pop up, if not they were released in the last 4 months, but the thumb nails make them easy to find.
