So Porte has announced that he is to leave Sky at the end of this year to focus on his own GC ambitions, talk of him going to BMC or maybe OGE?
not the best time to tell your team mates I'm off. Wonder if they knew that before the start of the Tour?.
He had a chance last year for GC it didnt go too well did it.

Everyone has know RP was leaving Sky for weeks. It was the major topic of conversation the day before the Tour started and how it would affect Sky!

Poor bloke, hope he gets through it.
Blimey! Hope he is ok.

I remember him being the next big thing years ago. Then, of course, he got caught up in the drug stuff. I do hope that if he did do drugs, they haven't had a part in this condition.
??? PED's and testicular cancer, you're trying to bridge the two?

not sure about that link but many of the pro's from the peleton in the 60's and 70's never saw old age.
He was an awesome rider not just an average one he did get caught cheating but I liked him he seemed a really nice Guy and I wish him the very very best for the coming difficult times ahead.

Really sad to hear the news about Basso, hope he makes a full recovery. Always comes across as one of the riders with a more gentle personality - watched him race against Armstrong in the individual time trial up Alpe d'huez in 2004. Still the most bonkers sporting event I've ever been to.

Eurosport were hinting at BMC.

I said that if he did use drugs, I hope it hasn't had a knock-on effect.

There is a school of thought (which could be right or wrong) that suggests Lance Armstrong's cancer could have been caused by his drug use.

I'm not a doctor and I don't know for sure, I just hope it hasn't caused something.

Don't forget that drug use in sport has contributed to deaths and illness. There was a spate of deaths amongst continental riders decades ago due to blood thickening. Every drug we take can have a side effect.

Interesting PR issue for Sky again, this time around power data for Froome's Ventoux climb a couple of years ago. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=...

Edit: No need to be signed up to Facebook to see it.

taking Drugs allows the rider to push himself further than his body would normally allow who knows what long term effects that would cause. Simple answer is dont do them.

Bad news - started new job now so can't watch the stage live anymore.
Good news - BBC Sport isn't banned at work smile

Bloody awesome from Sky today.
GT into 5th overall, can Sky deliver Le SuperDomestique into 2nd?

It's almost like Sir Dave took last yr and the gloating from certain quarters personally...

Annihilation from the Dawg today.

Funniest bit for me though was Porte breezing past Quintana in the final part of the climb... that's a domestique passing one of the best climbers in the Tour rofl

Hmm. Not entirely sure it was funny. Nor G (awesome that he is) matching Valverde with a little pat on the back...

I know the arguments inside out - this was a stage made for Sky tactically, Movi did a lot of the winding up effort, Steak and Nibbles are clearly out of form. The estimated power figures aren't mental as per a decade ago.

But.

This was the first Sky effort where I've asked 'what the fk?' instead of enjoying the show. Really fking hope I'm wrong.

My 'funny' quote was meant to be somewhat ironic!

Froome, Porte and Thomas were all unbelievable today... ahead even of AX3 in 2013, and that was an incredible stage.

At this rate, G.T. will be winning Grand Tours in a couple of years time!!

I'm only an interested spectator and todays stage is why I like watching the Tour, Herculean efforts of the like I couldn't hope to replicate. However Lance Armstrong just couldn't help himself to on twitter today

Great so a British rider does something really special so he must be on Drugs FFS.
He has been training for this since he crashed out last year. Maybe he did it because others are not on them now ever thought of that.

Sky have done what Audi did to LMP1, they've taken the perceived logic, thrown it in the bin and applied new thought processes to every angle of the game.
Last year was should've, would've, could've for Sky but was also arguably the least competed GC in recent history, Nibali is already being roasted and we're only 10 stages in!
Lots of chat pre Tour about Nibali having done less race days and having a 'traditional' build up to the tour leaving room in the tank, of the GC guys he's being shown thus far as the most unprepared, the game is moving on and the other Tour teams are still playing catch-up, only Ettix-Quick Step show signs of the professional level of preparation but they've been blighted by crashes.

It's unlikely due to long race tactics but right now Sky could pull off a 1,2,3.
