Just looking at the stage profile... the final climb is a monster... 16km at an average of 8.7%. Plenty of really steep bits, including the last KM to the finish.
yes

Brutal.

Quite an interesting fuelling / hydration conundrum too isn't it?

Getting it just right could make that little difference that matters

No real lulls in the action and no real need to take on food on the course, just the right mix and quantity of liquids

Gilbert took a tumble over a wall and looked like footballer diving it was that dramatic. The difference was he got his bruised and battered body back over the wall and on his bike what a man.
These last few stages have been like a phoney war with not much happening and despite all the hype I am not sure who from the contenders is going to attack tomorrow for fear of losing their podium place.
Broken kneecap, but rode 59km to the end with it.

This looks very weird and pointless.

ETA. And harsh on the guys further down. Instantly spat out the back at the first gradient.

I wonder whether the weight of that is a factor, too. I have no idea. A couple of water bottles is a kilo to carry up the mountain. Is that enough to make a difference? You often see them throwing the bottles off.

Read the data SKY released after Froome's mammoth break away on the Giro... they will be taking food and drinks constantly to avoid bonking on the final climb... will be planned out by the hour to ensure maximum amount of usable carbs are taken on board.

It's a short stage mileage wise, but they'll use a huge amount of energy.

It will be worked out in minute detail.

Can't see the stage as I'm at work, but doesn't sound too interesting so far - SKY TTT the peleton along.

Hopefully some fireworks now they are getting on to the big climb.

There's actually been quite a lot going on. Alaphillipe riding to secure KoM, Movistar working to get Quintana away (he's just caught up with Valverde who went up the rode early in the stage).

Froome has just had a little ride out with Roglic, Big Tom brought it back with G sat on his wheel. Looooong way to go up the mountain yet.

They're actually taking a bottle and then emptying a bit out to save the weight.

What these guys are doing is amazing.

G! Wow. Amazing. Gapped them at the end to claim third.

Froome has lost a chunk of time which could cost him the podium.

Froome will need the ride of his life on Friday. Reckon he can do anything to pull himself back in contention?

Cracking day for GT!
