Much like with Wout’s puncture in PR, robbed of the battle with him and Remco

He’s broken bones in his wrist and is having surgery today. Race for the tour now!

Really nasty crash into spectators near the end in the Giro today. A bit miffed that the (otherwise good) analysis of it all on DMax tonight didn't mention them at all. frown

This suggests all OK though:

It’s his third best result this year. Says it all really.

After Ganna pulling out yesterday, today sees Evenepoel test positive and exit the Giro having just taken back the Maglia Rosa.

Ridiculous given they will all be vaccinated if they chose to be and given their level of fitness they are hardly in the vulnerable category.

Sigh.

I suspect you’ve zero idea of the physical demands of racing at that level, let alone with an illness. He looked destroyed after yesterdays ride.

They’re not taking any chances and nor should they. Levels of fitness are irrelevant.

It's fairly normal to hear of a rider going on with a stomach bug / fever during a grand tour - so it's a valid question as to why COVID get's a special testing regime.

I've had a look at the statement he issued and claimed it was a routine test, and he had no symptoms. - https://twitter.com/EvenepoelRemco/status/16578464...

Myocarditis is associated with elevated risk of sudden cardiac death in athletes (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8002711/) and c19 with elevated risk of myocarditis, unlike some other viruses.

It's not a risk worth taking.

Sorry, I saw that mentioned by a news site but not in the tweet - crossed wires in my reading.

Exactly - I can't believe people are even questioning this. Even recently a few have retired due to heart issues......Colbrelli, Haussler....
