I'm in two minds about Cav having yet another go at the Tour.

On one hand, if he retired now he'd provide years of cycling bore discussion about would he/wouldn't he have won more stages if he hadn't crashed out.

On the other hand, by this time next year he'll either have won again or shown that he should have retired on a high earlier.

On balance I think he should have left us all wondering about what could have been.
He’ll be back…. He’ll have the best doctors wink

Everything he's achieved has been on the basis of fighting against the odds, in British Cycling he wasn't particularly highly regarded due to his so so numbers.

His legacy is his legacy irrespective of if he carrys on too long and keeps getting beat. So long as someone will fund him for another year he'll keep going.

I don't know about that. I reckon one more tour stage - ideally on the Champs Elysée - would be enough.

If it did come down to that and he again didn't have much of a lead out train in his own team, I could easily imagine other sprinters' teams, if they'd lost their own sprinter by then, putting their lead out men at his disposal. Just imagine how much sponsor exposure gold they'd bank out of a seemingly spontaneous gesture to help one of the most loved racers of all time fulfill the dream and go out on the highest possible high!

Talking of greats, N1no claimed his 9th Overall XCO World Cup title in Mont Sainte-Anne - a race won by current World Champion, Tom Pidcock.

Just like the final stage of the Giro this year when G did a big pull for Cav

Bodes well with Morkov reuniting with Cav next year as well.

It's a shame the final stage is an ITT finishing in Nice due to the Olympics

Booked accommodation to see a couple of stages in the South West. Not the usual course profile. I wonder how far the sprinters will get

Edited to add - looking at the detailed maps, one of the sprint stages finishes one house down from a friend’s cousin’s property. I’m invited to spend the day, so thinking of a barbecue out front. Hoping that Cav makes it through the Alps and is in the sprint

Round 2 of the CX World Cup, Maasmechelen, Belgium.

With both Pieterse & Van Anrooij on rest after busy summers, it's surely another Van Empel demonstration. The men's race should be closer; Trek v the Sauces most likely.

I’ll watch the highlights later. At least with a niche sport, it’s easy to avoid spoilers in the papers or tv news.

The cyclocross races look pretty tough this year, lots of very heavy mud. A lot of the riders looks absolutely exhausted after a few laps.

A rider in today's race, came off, put his shoulder back in it's socket using his bike frame and carried on racing!

That was Lars Van der Haar, the current Dutch champion.......And he'll be back out tomorrow for the World Cup in Dendermonde.

I'm that rare CX fan, I'm not the biggest fan of mudfests; it often becomes a test of pure power, and you can get massive gaps...The women's race was a bit slapstick with some falling over in muddy bogs without making mistakes......

Another pro cycling thread which just means road cycling......

In the middle of the CX Kerstperiode, and the almost daily demonstration of power & technique from MvdP........Though he might not find it so easy today.

It's not much of a sporting contest, but what a joy to watch somebody operating at such an extreme level as MvdP is at the moment.

He’s on another level right now. Pidcock has no luck today.

Although spitting at the crowd, as it looks like he did today, is completely unacceptable (IMHO).

The mullets and taches in pro cycling are spreading. Even van der Poel is attempting a mullet.

I suspect Wout has something tucked under his woolly hat as well.
