FFS.
He's always had a touch of the Flintoff about him.

Is anyone on Sangakkara watch here? He's just chalked up his 8th ton of the season, and has now scored a hundred off each of the other first division counties this season, except Hampshire. In 13 innings, he's got 1,400 runs with twice as many hundreds as any other batsman in Division One.

And he retires from first class cricket at the end of the week!

His innings this season: 71, 46, 136, 105, 114, 120, 200, 84, 4, 26, 180 not out, 164, 119 not out
He is irreplaceable for us Surrey fans ,

Do we know what Ben Stokes has done ?

He'd have had much more fun and found plenty more game fillies around the corner in LaRocca.

Arrested for ABH.

Could be quite serious if he gets charged.

Looks like a scuffle until a fairly clean right hook near the end. Might be in trouble.

I had hoped Stokes was the victim of some nasty pisshead and only retaliated as a last resort. The footage suggests he's thumping a couple of lads who've had enough and aren't much of a threat.

Accepting that we don't know the full story, on the face of it Stokes is a moron. I don't see how he can avoid some kind of formal ban and he shouldn't. I don't want my lad to see behaviour like this and think it's OK.

Agree Zep. I have no idea why someone in his position could lower himself to mixing it up like this with someone or why any of his mates weren't on point to prevent it.

You or a mate being attacked with a bottle makes "defending" yourself fair game in that situation if you need to, but Stokes has clearly carried it on way beyond self-defence.

Trouble I reckon.

Nasty temper, poor impulse control, bad attitude, thuggish behaviour... He should be playing for Australia.

He's an idiot. No need for any of that, especially by someone in the public eye.

I've never seen the attraction to brawling. Curious activity and if drinking made me feel punchy, I'd stop.

Have just watched it again and changed my mind.

The lad who ends up spark out is clearly and aggressively trying to bottle someone.

Stokes is trying to stop that then wades in.

So - defending someone and then gets a little carried away but the lad is definitely giving it large with a bottle so that would certainly get your blood pumping.

Law of natural justice says the the lad who is knocked out deserves it and Stokes gets off.

Should have stopped after the initial scuffle, or even better gone home after last orders.

Laws of Natural Justice don't apply when you're up before the Beak. This is ABH, whether the scrote deserved it or not. This is going to completely f**k up the Ashes tour.

When I first saw it last night I was interpreting it the Stokes was very much the agressor - looking this morning there is definitely another side to it.

I now hope he doesn't get charged and if he does, hope he gets a great barrister who gets him off.

Internal bking if he gets off, welcomed back like the prodigal son if he doesn't.

(presuming the video is most of the story)

I read your post and watched the video again with the most open of minds. Sadly I think my initial impressions were correct. He's carried on way past the point where excuses could have been made, and is clearly the aggressor toward the end.

I expect that he'll be suspended (particularly because the incident happened in the middle of a series) and thus unable to join the tour. This may not be the worst problem he will face.

So sad.

Im in two minds about it. If its the other lads who instigated it and attacked them with a bottle then fair enough, but in the clip it clearly shows rather than trying to defend himself by bringing peace he clearly has red mist and started trying to knock out people so its hard to make a call. I suspect the Police will be sharing the full clip with the ECB and they will be able to see what happened.

In these instances does it depend if the others want to make a compliant, or can the CPS charge someone of ABH if the other does not want to press charges?
