3 test series (of sorts) with the West Indies proposed for July. Subject to government approval.

First Test v West Indies: 8-12 July at Ageas Bowl
Second Test v West Indies: 16-20 July at Old Trafford
Third Test v West Indies: 24-28 July at Old Trafford

Great. Months without any live sport, then we get the first Test clashing with the second Grand Prix of the season. It seems churlish to complain, but I can, because this is the internet, so I will.

A great poll on the BBC Cricket website until next Thursday.

They've already asked "Who was the best overseas player from each of the first class counties?" and now, they've put each county's winner into an overall poll to determine THE best ever. As a Somerset fan, I'm delighted that currently, Sir Vivian Richards has amassed four times as many votes as anyone else and should strut to victory with luck.

Just seeing how many great players didn't even make it into the poll tells you what an absolute glut of fantastic talent there has been from overseas in the county game.My own county has had Sir Viv, Joel Garner, Martin Crowe, Sunny Gavaskar, Jimmy Cook and Chris Gayle (to name but six).

Terribly sad to hear that Sir Geoffrey has retired. An end of an era, never afraid to speak his mind.

Unfortunately his mind only contained 3 things: corridor of uncertainty, his grandmother's stick of rhubarb and adding 2 wickets to the score.

He did not listen to other commentators or summarisers and his opinions never changed or developed.

He ended up as dull and a caricature.

Definitely time for him to go.

His mind also contained ALL of his batting stats. There wasn't much room for anything else.

Possibly. But one of the best things about TMS is the banter and humour - Phil Tuffnel's comment that fast bowlers bouncing tailenders is just legalised stoning will stay with me forever. Boycott doesn't do banter or humour, but he does add a dimension to the commentary, albeit of the "grumpy Yorkshireman" variety.

I just hope he's not replaced by Vaughan. Boyc's did have a sense of humour albeit one that was very dry. Vaughan seems to be lacking not only a sense of humour, but any other form of sense.

Well, it starts to look like Social Distancing is going to be the killer blow to any Club League cricket this season and potentially any cricket at all.

My understanding of the current position, here in Kent, is that the second half of the season, due to start early July has been binned with the clubs left to play the fixtures as "competitive friendlies" as they see fit.

With SD still in place the clubhouse is basically out of the equation. Changing rooms, showers, kitchens, bar etc all being effectively rendered out of bounds or policed by some self appointed COVIDestapo enforcing SD.

This means that to play a match, the players arrive in their kit, play the game without sweating on anything, and clear off home immediately the game ends still in their kit. No tea, no showers, no beer after the game etc.

Away games would require 15 cars instead of the usual 4.

Critically, a quick straw poll at my club indicates no players are interested in playing under these regs.

What a crock of ste it all is.

Don’t forget “buffet bowling”.

By the way, anyone else sitting on Lord’s tickets? Several months ago, I paid for the whole family to go to the ENG v AUS ODI in July. Considering Cricket Australia has no fixtures planned until August (Home v ZIM), why hasn’t Lord’s informed the spectators and refunded their money?

Lord’s has so far only refunded the Windies series and they only did that a couple of weeks ago....I’ve got tickets for the ODI and the Pakistan tests and there’s been no mention of them

My son plays County Age Group cricket...talking to one of the coaches this week their thoughts based on latest ECB communications were no adult recreational cricket at all and some junior friendly cricket . The most ridiculous thing is that my 11yr old son’s County U11’s team is considered “part of the elite pathway” by HM Govt so currently ruling is that for them to play a County game they’d have to undergo the same protocol as the professional players. Testing twice a week etc fking madness!

There’s other problems they’re trying to work out like where the umpire stands....current thought is they stand to the right (assuming right arm over) and once the bowler passes them they step to the left to get in line !

This may all change one the 2m rule goes though.

11.30 this morning, Sky Sports Cricket.

England vs Australia T20, 2005. The first match of the epic Ashes tour.

I've seen it before, and I'll happily watch it again. And again.

That movement of the umpire is a no-no. It's hard enough to make a correct lbw decision when stood in the same spot, without having to make a snap decision within a nano-second of moving to a different standpoint.
