Disappointing capitulation by India this morning.
Yea kind of feel for all the people looking forward to a days top test match cricket. The Crims look worryingly decent don't they, I can't see us being to hung ho with their class act bowling line up.
Roll on Friday, Nothing beats an Ashes home series.

Just started a new job two months ago and our first works do last night was pizzas from a restaurant and off to Gloucestershire v Somerset at the County Ground, Bristol....
Team were split 50/50 between both sides, I guess, with me & my sons massive Somerset fans, Was rewarded with some fabulous weather and a simply brilliant innings from Will Smeed who was caught for 94 off 35 on the boundary; had it gone for the six, would have been the sixth quickest T20 century in history.
Glos had no answer and apart from early on, never looked like chasing down the 232 needed for victory. Somerset absolutely flying this season with eight wins from nine games....
Not in the cricket that matters. And Essex should have beaten them in the T20, but sh*t the bed chasing playing stupid shots when knocking it around was all thats needed.Team were split 50/50 between both sides, I guess, with me & my sons massive Somerset fans, Was rewarded with some fabulous weather and a simply brilliant innings from Will Smeed who was caught for 94 off 35 on the boundary; had it gone for the six, would have been the sixth quickest T20 century in history.

Not that it will affect this latest result but how the hell the umpire gives Overton out to Harmer today is shocking, absolutely shocking!

Anyone think the 1st test (or any for that matter) will go the full 5 days?
Why not? Do you think we're going to get creamed? Or we are going to wipe the floor with the Aussies?I don't think there has been enough play recently to say who is in best form. Aus comprehensively beat India but they didn't seem to have it together at any point. We beat a weak team in Ireland but still won by a decent margin.

It all matters but yes, I would hope we would perform better in the CC.

Debatable if the hit and giggle does, for the players yes as it leads to lucrative contracts, for lovers of cricket i would say not, quite the opposite. Not that it will affect this latest result but how the hell the umpire gives Overton out to Harmer today is shocking, absolutely shocking!
Coverton's attitude goes before him I'm afraid. His halfwitted over the top histrionics 95% of the time don't endear him to umpires, hence he was sawn off. Still should win tomorrow if Abell finds someone to hang around with him.

Great match and run chase SCO vs IRE. Michael Leask take a bow!
In the context of international cricket like 2 bald men fighting over a comb! But was a good game despite the appalling standard of both sides.
That's the beauty of cricket imo, standard doesn't equate to enjoyment, village 3rd xi can be just as enthralling.
Manufactured and fake ipl isn't cricket though.
As someone with a lifetime of active involvement in cricket - as a player, a coach and a club committee member - this report is highly depressing.

Setting aside for a moment the serious observations on sexism and racism, the comments on elitism and class-based discrimination I find hard to take seriously. Elite sport is - by very definition - elitist! And the prevalence of independent schooling in the world of junior cricket is an outcome of financial inequality not class-based discrimination. The kids at independent schools have better opportunities than many at state schools, across a wide range of fields. This is why many parents scrimp, save and manage their finances in order to send their kids to these schools. Cricket is a sport requiring expensive resources - principally dedicated land with a high maintenance cost - so it’s entirely unsurprising that wealthier families are involved. As they are with yacht racing, polo, water-skiing etc. To represent this as class-based discrimination is surely ridiculous.
I recognise that many will take my views as an indication that I am part of the problem rather than part of the solution….

The report was self serving and written by those with an agenda - just look at the backgrounds of those who wrote it.https://theicec.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/HOL...

I don't disagree cricket has many issues, including racism, sexism etc in places, but this report found what it wanted and is in no way a fair, balanced independent commission.
How can it be taken seriously given all that?
Its a hatchet job, simply been done to fit in with noisy minority (not ethnic minority) viewpoint that companies, institutions etc. are scared not to be seen kow-towing to, as it fits with the prevailing hysteria in both cultural and political debate currently where everything is sensationalized by a small noisy group behind whatever cause and thus dictates media discourse for clicks.

the report is biased bllx
I wonder whether anyone in the world of cricket will have the temerity to stand up and call it out as such? Perhaps - just perhaps - they’ve over-reached this time…? Sadly the spectacle of Stokes reading out a pre-written “apology” shows how the ECB view the report. I can’ t wait for their regional apparatchiks to start asking us how we propose to deliver the grass-roots initiatives they will build on it.
Meanwhile the fantastic progress seen in girls cricket at club level is starting to be undermined by the inclusion of abnormally strong players with deep voices, who perhaps haven’t always “identified as girls”. One such player was retired after smashing 40* off a little over a dozen balls in a local junior league match last week. Not sure that will help grow participation and skills in the long-run!

This is why the India domestic league dominance is so short term. The money in the game should be enough to entice young WI athletes into cricket. But something in the WI set up, coaching is rotten. It needs investment and the other playing nations have to find the formulae to bring on and develop the game.

The lure of US college and pro sport offers far more to young West Indians than cricket can ever hope to do. Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
