Thanks for the tip. I'll try that next time, along with maybe walking away for 10 minutes to get a drink and get my head clear.

It's such a love/hate game.

Were you fitted for the putter?

I'm going to inherit some money soon from my late Nan, I plan on spending a few hundred quid of it on a special putter (Scotty Cameron or similar), but I'm going to get myself properly fitted for it. Luckily there is 1 of only 3 Scotty Cameron fitting centres not far from me.

No, I'm normally a 34inch as 6ft 2. So being a dual balance I went for the 38inch version as you have the weight above your hands. Great feel off the face

Whenever i have a 'bad' range session i go right back to basics....grip, posture, ball position. Then i consciously try to swing at half pace until it starts to come back. Then build it up from there. Also, when struggling like that, loft is definitely your friend. If you're struggling to hit a 7/8 iron then there's no point trying to whack a driver...the lower loft and longer shaft is extra difficulty you don't need at that point in time IMO.
Yep, all of this, but also don't get into the frustrated mode of:

Whack
fk!
Quick, get another one...
Whack
bks!!!
Quick, get another one...

When you hit a couple of bad shots, take a breather, grab a wedge and start again with a few easy swings to ease the tension.

Couldn't agree more. And it definitely is a love/hate game! biggrin

Bit of a funny game yesterday, 12 out and 19 pts back. Not sure why it took so long to get going.

Next Friday 12 of us go off to play the Golf National Albatross course the venue for the 2018 Ryder Cup.
The grass has been growing so I am sure the rough will be a disaster and that on top of all the water will mean I will be taking a big bag of balls.

it's a lot I agree, but I know the pro well ( off to Belek with him in 2 weeks!) so I got it for £240, but still a lot of cash but Scotty's hold there money so I shouldn't loose too much. Also it is the most used club in the bag and I can sometimes have over 30 putts a round!

sorry, I got my maths wrong there, like you I have at 3 x 3 putts per round so it should have been 40 putts.

on the rare occasion I can putt and that's when I shoot great rounds.

Drive for show putt for dough

I'd say I average between 34 and 38 putts per round.

I was the roughly the same as you Rosscow, up until about a month ago. Good putting and chipping is more often than not, the difference between most low teen handicap golfers and those in the single digits. As above...Drive for show, putt for dough!

It is tough to measure like-for-like between golfers.

A chap off 6 playing pretty good golf might be hitting as many putts as a chap off 18.

Simply because chap off 18 misses most greens in regulation, and so is playing a lot more chips and pitches from close, so he may often be playing his first putt from closer to the hole.

Chap off 6 is hitting greens from 250 yards out, but is (of course) not always very close to the pin. They both take 2 putts, but one is a par and one a bogey.

Naturally though, you'd expect a chap off 6 to do better on any given putt than a chap off 18. But by the nature of their different games, they don't get the same selection of putts to be judged by.

After 8 months of lessons and changes to my game and swing. My instructor has me going in for a fitting of some new clubs next week. Starting with a crispy new set of irons. Turns out the current of the peg clubs I have are about an inch short and that could be part of my struggle to reach a negative angle of attack.

Looking forward to the process to be honest now ive cracked the finish being well on my left and sorted out my anterior tilt.

The missus finds my research about strong shafts hilarious though.

You can't beat a stiff shaft...extra-stiff if you're lucky!!

Well my misery continued through 12 holes today were I maybe hit 5 good shots, and I snapped my backup driver too. Clubs are going on gumtree tonight as golf is too expensive for me to waste time being crap at it.

Seriously? How can you snap 2 drivers in a week?

I'm presuming you're one of those guys that likes to hit the ground with his club after a bad shot?!
