I agree that the ECB cocked up over KP.

I also think however, that KP should never be allowed near an England dressing room ever again. A dressing room needs a level of trust and it is utterly obvious that nobody in that dressing room wants KP there. The debate ends there for me.
I agree he shouldn't return, he is no longer the future. Don't think anything else matters now., it's just a sideshow.

but I do think fans of cricket owe KP some respect, he was a fantastic player for England.

A nod of the head for the Oval I agree. A measure of thanks.

Respect, for a lot of people was off the agenda once they found out he was texting against his skipper during a match to the opposition.

This current hoohaa we have had with Cook - the lack of a ton, questions over his role, place, team - we have seen the exact same situation with Strauss before him and when Nas was skipper. Last chance saloon drinks for the skippers, heavily criticised delivering home tons to massive roars from the crowd. Nas famously pointed his bat to the media as a big fk You, Strauss pointed his bat to his wife, Cook yesterday - we all saw what it meant and the crowd delivered their approval.

FIGJAM delivered a personal betrayal of the English cricket captain. English cricket crowds - even when they don't agree with the Captaincy - do not tolerate such things. The Captain is their man on the field and everyone knows the job is the most ginger stepchild in sport.

After Ben Stokes' performance today, one had to ask, who is this Pieterson guy that all the fuss has been made about?
I don't think it is fair too trash a guy who made over 8000 test runs for us, and remains the highest scoring English cricket in all formats.

KP is a ledge, shame the English Cricket Board couldn't harnes his talent better, or indeed that KP himself, couldn't keep a lid on some of his wilder behaviour.

Stokes batted great today, fantastic to have anew player that can excite the crowd, like a botham, Freddie or KP.
Certainly not trashing KP, but after all the hoo-hah of the last few weeks Stokes is what England needs to move forward, someone who can come out and change a game, putting England into a winning position.

Ballance
Bell
Root
Stokes
Joss
Ali

I think is a class upper/middle order to be honest.

We shall see how Lyth grows, but that could be a very good order and time to settle before Cook and Bell hang up their whites.

Tricky declaration decision.

What to do, setting NZ 350 off even 70 overs looks slightly iffy, given the hitting power some of the batsman have in the ODI.

On the other 300 has only ever been chased once at lords in ever. in ever!

We know Cook is a little conservative, so I reckon it will be 60/65 overs remaining before we hand it in (assuming we don't get bowled out)

I've decided to finish building my new shelving unit rather than spend five hours of travelling there and back to see the cricket. I'll kick myself if it's an exciting finish, but I'll be far happier once the new shelves are in place.

Cook's gone, Broad won't last long. Will Wood swing the wood, will Jimmy hang around long enough to let Mo have a thrash? When shall England bowl again? when the hurly bury's done?

Broad lasts twelve balls, but he managed to hit a six of a short one, so some encouragement there.

Looks like we will be bowled out first which may be the best thing to happen

Kiwis made a massive error bowling England out. They cannot win the match. But they can easily lose this.

Cook wouldn't have declared until the middle session.

England will win this.

Bloody shelves. Come back i from the garage, check the score before lunch and see that I really should be sitting in Edritch stand with a bottle of Lanson and a pile of pork pies.

McCullum's brand of 'aggressive cricket' is so naive its quite sweet to watch. He thew his wicket away in the first innings and he is now reaping his reward.

Winning is always better than being entertaining.

No, but one of the Durham players is from New Zealand :P
Stokes came across at 12 to the north of England john and has lived and played there since.

This is not a KP/Trott professional migrant.

The last screw is now in place on the shelves, just need to stack some stuff on them and I can concentrate on the cricket.

Anyway, now we have an Aussie coach - so you can start on that instead.

This is where England miss having a front line spinner. Ali is a good player to have in the team but he's no Graeme Swann.

Oh and Anderson is 1 away from 400 test wickets - that's a great achievement.
