As much as it fun to watch McCullum, that is truly dreadful and selfish test batting.
McCullum is confusing 'attacking' and 'aggressive' with slogging. Threw is wicket at Lords in the first innings. Really has no idea what test cricket is about and how to win.
His run of form has been abruptly ended by the quality of the English attack.

McCullum has a had a decent year. His career stats are not great. His run of form has been abruptly ended by the quality of the English attack.
NZ 0-148 at Lords. 300-2. Made 500 in first innings. Your bowers had one good session and NZ threw away the game.
300 in 2 sessions yesterday. 50 in the first 7 overs today by number 10 & 11.
Quality bowling attack.

Chef gone for 75.
To be honest Im not that fussed, they seem to have got themselves bogged down after tea so this might shake things up and move them along a bit.
Are you not feeling well? Grind the buggers down, wear them out and once they're worn out, keep grinding them some more, surely? If only as practice for what's to come later this summer. To be honest Im not that fussed, they seem to have got themselves bogged down after tea so this might shake things up and move them along a bit.
202/1 is a decent score in any conditions/pitch
Kiwis struggling have gone into the game with only four frontline bowlers.
Great to see Lyth get a score, perfect timing and settles him in for the rest of the summer.
English bowling attack is still a little inconsistent, but I like the look of Wood, seems to have something slightly different. Broad remains an expensive bowler, but a wicket taker.

200 for 1, 253 for 5
Our "world class" middle order, looking pretty ordinary today.
Anyway, the Hammer of Justice is still out there, so that's a bonus, he needs to scratch himself back into form.
But Ballance running out the Lyth was just poor.
Anyway, reckon we will get to par, but it could and should have been a little better than that.

A few bits of carelessness today, but Bell, Buttler and Moeen still to swing the wood, then Wood and Broad, with Jimmy holding an end up for a while at the end. A lot will depend on the overhead conditions, if there's swing for the bowlers then we'll have to work hard to reach par, otherwise we should be capable of getting 50-100 ahead.

As much as I admire Cook as an opening batsman, he is not a match winner. Had he and Lythe carried on batting I could see England at 250/0 at stumps, still 100 runs behind going into day 3 with rain forecast. The middle order HAD to accelerate in order to make a game of it, but with a new ball the NZ bowlers had the upper hand. Our "world class" middle order, looking pretty ordinary today.

We only need a draw to win the series, it's NZ that need to chase the game. See off the new ball, wear their bowlers out and then up the rate. It's called test cricket because it's a test. A series of tests. Chef is too negative as a captain, but to suggest that we'd be better off losing five wickets for a extra three runs is a view that I'm struggling to understand.

Just because they don't want to grind out scores and bat for 4 days doesn't make it childish. They would rather get on with it and try and get a result.
Wouldn't hurt England to take a few more chances when batting.
