Really starting to dislike the Smith brothers, they've been showing no class on twitter over the last few days. Williams was miles ahead on Saturday night but this is Paul Smiths view....

The headbutt convenient ? It was like a diving headbutt lol.

Indeed, in my opinion Smith was very fortunate.

If they're grating now wait until Callum wins a world title, which he inevitably will.

Burns was totally outclassed there. I only stayed up after the fight to laugh at the score cards and as seems usual for Scotland they didn't disappoint.

116-112?

Indongo won every minute of every round.

I've been keeping an eye out for updates on the condition of Eduard Gutknecht, and this is the first update I've seen since the beginning of the year. Upsettingly, it's not a good one, though, being realistic, not unexpected either:

Wishing him the very best but just hope in the fullness of time he can attain at least a partial recovery.

Don't think that's too wide of the mark. It was a calculated gamble by Burns that Indongo had just hit the jackpot with the rapid KO of Troyanoski and wasn't genuinely a world class operator, given that apart from that 40-odd seconds when he won the IBF belt, he hadn't been in with any stand-out names, while his KO record itself was unremarkable at around 50%. Unfortunately for Burns, Indongo was a proper pain in the arse to fight with his awkward, rangey, southpaw style and was able to maintain that high tempo for the full 12 rounds.

To be honest, Indongo is the archetypal 'who needs him' fighter but happily for him, he's managed to pick up two world titles before the world has realised it!

I hadn't seen anything about him....this is awful....similar situation to abdusolomov after the Mike perez fight...he's alive but pretty much everything else has to be done for him.....I do question this sport sometimes

Very sad indeed, he's a young man with a family must be devastating for them, hopefully he does in time make a full recovery.

Re: Smith Brothers- it's interesting that Calum who is clearly the most talented and will win a world title IMHO is also by far the most modest. I lost quite a bit of respect for Liam before and during the fight. He goes on like he's some world beater, when he's a very average fighter. Williams kept him at range and was up by 5-6 points, despite Liam's high guard he was hitting him with ease. The head clash just looked too convenient to me, Liam had no way to win the fight at the end of the 9th round..

Did anyone watch the AJ/Wlad gloves are off?

Quite an odd one, mutual respect is one thing but there was a weird sterile atmosphere that I don't think I have seen before.

AJ has always been very cool and collected in these things though, so no real surprises from him.

It was definitely a bit anodyne, though I suppose the fight has generated so much interest, it doesn't really need a promotional push from a bit of staged animosity. That said, I thought AJ missed a trick by not turning up in a Batman costume!

Re the battle of the Liams, personally I thought it was starting to swing Smith's way when stopped as Williams looked like he was beginning to gas. Apparently Williams was ahead on all three cards but only by one round on each (which I found slightly surprising) so quite plausibly could have been overtaken by Smith. However, I think Williams can consider himself unlucky as the fight should really have been stopped by the ref or doctor rather than his corner pulling him...if that had happened, it should have gone to the scorecards as the cut was caused by a headbutt rather than a punch, and Williams would therefore have got a unanimous decision.

I watched - http://www.afterthelastround.com/ - last week, it's on Youtube, I'll probably buy a DVD copy just because apart from being really interesting it's a very well made film and supportive of the boxing after care community.

The story of the Moyer Brothers is heart breaking, they mention in the doc and I've heard before that there are genetic markers which pre dispose people to certain chronic brain damage from injury (the small repetitive injuries) and some people just recover like they have wolverine's brain, it's very hard to square even as a once a week very low level guy who just spars for fun what damage I could be doing to myself and my mates at the gym... But it's such good fun and so exciting to watch...

i've got the same worries mate....the days of full fight condition spars are behind me but it does niggle away at me the couple of times i've been proper knocked out...and what lasting damage may or may not be there.

these days we are only tech sparring really but even so there's still the odd heavy shot that gets through...more by the oppo moving unexpectedly and walking onto a shot...but even so,a few of us are into our 40s now and the benefits of exercise must surely be countered by being punched in the head repeatedly..

as to joshua /klitschko.....couldn't read too much into it but you could definately see wlad trying to control the conversation...

tyson fury has exploded on twitter as you'd expect so close to this fight and most of his vitriol has been directed squarely at joshua who seems to have bitten...

rumours circulating that joe joyce has been giving it to joshua in sparring have permeated through the sport and fury mentioned this in one of his tweets too

I like AJ, he's doing his best to not get involved, but I think this is a step too far too soon.

Wlad to win by KO.

As mentioned, i've hated that drop and retract of the right hand AJ does and he still did it in the last fight...a really bad habit and will get punished.

That being said, if AJ can get on him early, it could go the other way!

What other options are there for AJ? The division is quite weak (due to lots of people getting themselves banned for PEDs) so the only obvious fights are Wlad or maybe Wilder. If AJ beat Wilder people would simply say "See, we always said he was a bum".

Are you sure about the Birmingham event? Or is your damaged head playing games with you?
