As its coming to the end of the year anyone want to try to single out their Boxing highlight of 2017? For me it has to be Joshua vs Vlad, not just for the result or the event of it but aside that is was an incredibly exciting fight to watch.
Good question! For me, the highlight was/is that we can look back on 2017 and talk about the fights that were made rather than those that failed to materialise. A strong case can be put that Joshua-Klitschko, GGG-Canelo, Ward-Kovalev II, Crawford-Indongo, and DeGale-Jack all represented the best fights that could be made in those respective divisions when they took place (with honourable mentions for Brook-Spence, Thurman-Garcia, Frampton-Santa Cruz, Burnett-Zhakiyanov, Golovkin-Jacobs - all of which were there or thereabouts - and of course Lomachenko-Rigondeaux as well)...added to which there was also the commencement of the two World Boxing Super Series tournaments.

On a personal level, I have a soft spot for seeing fighters achieve redemption in some shape or form, so Groves winning a world title at his fourth attempt having come so close previously, Billy-Joe Saunders putting on such a consummate display at the weekend after a turgid couple of years and Wladimir Klitschko gaining so much respect and recognition, even if in defeat, were all highlights for me.

So Frampton is fightng Nonito Donaire next. I assume he's confident enough as a loss would be the end of him I think

Might be a bit of an odd one....for me my boxing highlight of 2017 was Linares v Crolla. I know it was pretty one sided, but it was a masterclass display from Linares.

Think that’s probably a well-chosen opponent for Frampton. A recognised name, and has credibility by virtue of having held a world title in the not-too-distant past, but no longer the force he was pre-Rigondeaux, plus by no means the biggest Featherweight Frampton could have picked either...

Busy comments section too, I liked this one laugh "Fury's a puzzle wrapped in a conundrum hidden in a caravan."

I find this a curious statement. Frampton has only lost one fairly evenly contested fight against a fighter he previously beat.

Excellent news!!....65/35 seems about right i reckon .....my enthusiasm for parker has waned a lot over the last 18 months but it's a fight i still want to see.....the resolve i want is to see how pulev and povetkin fit into the picture as nobody seems to be mentioning either name at the moment...

No chat about okolie/ Chamberlain from anyone??!!
Hats off to both guys taking this fight so early in their careers....i know okolie is the favourite but his wildness might be his undoing here i think...

For those that haven't seen there is a 4 part documentary on sky sports catch up called chasing the dream
Great shows..just watched part 2 featuring Joshua buatsi. Love that guy and his attitude. Great seeing the footage of him out in Jamaica with Lennox Lewis.

Echoes of Groves-DeGale with this one. I think it's a great fight to make at this point, both fighters will learn an awful lot from it and a loss shouldn't be the end of the road for either of them as long as they acquit themselves well. Let's face it, with the wealth of talent in the Cruiserweight division at the moment, you're unlikely to get to the top without going through some proper hard tests anyway, so this will be ideal preparation for both fighters in terms of what lies ahead.

Looks like there's growing momentum behind a Dillian Whyte-Lucas Browne fight in the New Year. I don't think it will be the classiest of affairs but, for some reason, the prospect of this fight I find really quite appealing...!

Some interesting choices in the Ring Magazine 2017 awards:

https://www.ringtv.com/525515-ring-magazine-year-e...

Surprised that DeGale-Truax didn’t get upset of the year. Yes, Ali beating Cotto was against the odds but it was Cotto’s final fight of a long career and, despite holding a title, Cotto was a certainly a good few years past his prime. DeGale, on the other hand, was supposedly coming back fitter than ever, having sorting out a number of injuries that had been holding him back, his previous fight was arguably a career-best performance, and in Truax had chosen the lowest ranked contender available for a title defence.

It’ll be interesting to see their choices for fighter and fight of the year. I’d be surprised if the latter didn’t go to Joshua-Klitschko but fighter of the year is arguably pretty open, with Lomachenko, Ward, Crawford, Mikey Garcia and Sor Rungvisai all having good claims. Tough choice...Ward arguably had the best win in beating Kovalev, Lomachenko won his fights by the biggest margins, Garcia looked sensational against two different world champions (current or former), Crawford did the clean sweep and Sor Rungvisai beat arguably the #1 p4p twice in succession! All worthy contenders...!

Rumours are Inoue will be stepping up to Bantamweight in 2018. Could be some epic fights with Burnett, Tete, Zhakianov and co. the offing...

Some great match ups there!!...

In other news i notice eddie hearn has reacted to the Tommy coyle/ohara davies/derry Mathews twitter spat last night by dropping Davies from the Feb 3rd O2 card...

I saw it last night in live time and thought to myself that Davies had massively fked up by making the comments he did by basically goading the families of the 96 victims at Hillsborough.....

I have to say, particularly as a Scouser, it was absolutely disgusting reading what he tweeted and he deserves everything he gets in the fallout from this. Disrespectful .

But I've just read his apologies and retraction pleading ignorance as to the significance of the bad feeling towards the sun newspaper....i suppose we have to take that on face value and accept that he didn't realise what he was saying.. .

One thing’s for sure; Warren really rates Tete...
