Congestion seemed to last till around mile 16 from green, that's when I seemed to finally get into my relaxed stride last year.
It was just really cosy for the first 6 or 7 miles.

I did a Cooper Test on Wednesday and managed 3460 meters in 12 minutes. Had a quick squizz on the internet and 2700 meters was at he high end and referred to as "Excellent", which seemed a bit slow to be excellent, so had a further rummage and 3400-3700 meters was considered "good" for experienced runners, which sounds a bit more like it. I think the 5000 meter WR is a bit over 12 minutes which would be a sweat on a bike!

Any advice on Trail shoes?

Apart from fitting well, is there anyway possible to know how they'll perform for you when buying?

I was just going to go for a set of Salomon Speedcross 4s as they are a solid brand, fit my foot ok, good deals about, look fine and the online reviews seems ok.

Everyones going to have different answers as our feet/gaits are all different.

How off road are you planning on going ? forest trails , up fells ?

Is there a budget ?

In the summer i've used new balance 610v5's there nice and cushioned but in the autumn i switch over to inov8 which aren't quite as cushioned but far more grippy.

If it's really muddy and i'm not doing hardly any hard packed trail then i use inov8 mudrocs but there not very cushioned so rarely get used.

For the grizzly i used the roclites and last year i did a 19 mile trail race on the south devon coast path and the new balance were fine but it was bone dry.

I used to be a massive fan of the low profile nike trail shows (wild trail, flex trail). They're cheap, comfortable and durable but I can't seem to get them in my size any more (8.5).

I've got a set of Salomon sense mantras-they're pretty good but feel clunky next to the Nike's. One thing I would advise is that in my experience the Speedlace system is a bit rubbish. I always end up with the bottom of the shoe tighter than I need it and it is not speedy in any way to do them up.

If they fit and aren't slicks you're 80% of the way there unless you're expecting mud/bog/hill/x-country I would think.
I would add fairly low stack height as a potential factor if it's particularly gnarly as they are a bit more stable on rough/technical track. Is it Salomons with the quick lace system? - didn't get on with that one personally but that could be down to my odd feet. [ETA yeah - as above]

Went to the Guernsey Athletics Festival for the Bank Holiday weekend. 5k road race on Friday, Parkrun then 4.75 mile cross country on Saturday, 4x1 mile relay on Sunday, and a 10k road race on the Monday. Not a bad way to spend the weekend (plus a few days) with scenery like this all round

The Speedcross have really good grip on the soft stuff, and are ok on Tarmac if you have the occasional road section.

Keep the receipt though, having had speedcross 3's before the wife and I both bought 4's in October, by March hers had split above the little toe and mine split a seam on the side a week or two later. Both replaced with no questions by Cotswold.

I'd echo the advice above. I have the Speedcross 3s and also the Wings Flyte 2 and the SP3 is great for wet, muddy running but the the WF2 are better for harder packed trails and tarmac. I did the Farnham Pilgrim and Purbeck marathons in one week last September in the WF2s and they were great. I don't have any problems with the lacing unlike some people.

Never mind his team mate that rocked up with a 2:41 having never run a marathon before and starting with the masses.

Looking at the Wings Pro 2s now - they seem to be a great all rounder.

Just to chuck some positive remarks into the mix - I get on well with Salomon's speedlace system. I put over 600km into my SC'3's without issue, and didn't hesitate to buy SC4's when they finally gave up.

Still undecided on the 4's. I like the fit, I like the grip, the cushioning is welcome, no issues with the lacing. They just feel a touch heavy sometimes...but others I just don't notice them. And I'm not sure whether that's because my other regular trail shoe - Inov8 Mudclaw 300 - is sooo light, or whether the SC4's are actually heavy. But I've put less than 50km into them yet, once I've done another 100 or so I'll make some decisions. I'll keep them anyway - at the price I paid they're cheap enough to beat to death for training runs - but the jury is out on whether or not I'll use them as a more cushioned race shoe for longer runs over hard ground as well as for day-to-day training.

Slightly disappointed today as was on for a 4:30 as was on a PB at half way mark. Then Bang IT band went and then leg started to crap. A few bits of walking, stretching, gritting my teeth and a nearly a few tears.

But I finished and that's all that matters might have been an hour longer then I hoped but wow what an experience. London is an amazing city and everyone has been so friendly and helped me push my self.

Raised some money for charity close to my heart so good day all round.

Main dispointment is my fishers tee does have the adidas stripes on the arms! The swines. Oh and one big blister in my foot !
