Another good track session last night, tempo runs either side of a hills interval session (last hills session of the winter now XC is finished).
I've got an easy half planned for the morning, 8:20 pace, then I'm tapering for the week pre race next Sunday!
Been a good training block, feeling much fitter than 8 weeks ago.

My next challenge is a 20 min 5k.
I think I've bitten off more than I can chew here... my legs don't go round that fast! I tried some 5k-speed intervals on a treadmill this afternoon (after doing some tempo earlier in the week and honestly struggling) so I was kinda forced to find a way to keep the cadence and keep the pace. But it feels dodgy AF, like you've barely got control of where you're legs are going
I may have to aim for a slower time for the first go round the training cycle.

Can anyone explain threshold running I can't quite get my head around it. and its part of a Hyrox training plan.
I'll try... Threshold pace is the maximum pace that you can sustain whereby your body can clear lactic acid as fast as it builds up. It's a 'hard' pace that's not sustainable for more than about 50 mins to an hour. Could be 10k race pace for some people. Heart rate will be around 90% of your maximum, but may take a while to get there.Typically run as shorter intervals during training

I wouldn’t get too hung up on that. I run minute efforts at 15kph on my treadmill, but can run parkrun at a quicker pace than that currently. 8 minute miles feel quite an effort on my treadmill, so I just go on effort. My high cadence/short stride length is even worse on a treadmill and I generally can’t run as fast on them as I can outside. It’s not just mine aa found the same last week in the hotel gym - different brand of treadmill. Some people seem to be quicker on a treadmill - not me though!I think I've bitten off more than I can chew here... my legs don't go round that fast! Hopefully my usually interval session locations will start to dry up a bit so I can get back to all my sessions outside and resume 6x1km, 12x0.5km etc but during the winter I’ve been doing 16x60s@15kph plus parkrun for my speedwork.

agree, completely ignore the treatmill in my view. For some reason I find 9min mile faster/harder on my gym treadmill than 8 min mile outside. it could be to do with heat of indoors, treadmill pace or just the fact that its not normal running ground, i just find it hard. I can run 10min mile treadmill and its 'ok' and i never ever run that pace outdoors.Hopefully my usually interval session locations will start to dry up a bit so I can get back to all my sessions outside and resume 6x1km, 12x0.5km etc but during the winter I’ve been doing 16x60s@15kph plus parkrun for my speedwork.

I'm always amazed at how quickly my fitness drops off after a short lay off.
Been running regularly the last 12 months, seeing constant progress. The last 3-4 weeks I've done nothing as I've been having a stressful time. First run back yesterday, thought I'd ease in gently with a SLOW 10k, was blowing out of my arse, very disheartening. Nearly had to slow to a walk at one point.
A classic case of if you don't use it, you lose it.
Anyone else drop off so quickly? It feels like such a chore now trying to get back to where I was.

I find even after a week or 2 rest that the first session back is difficult regardless of if it's a steady one or not. The next one is usually fine though. It's almost like the body just needs to blow out the cobwebs and kick start the system again.
I really need to work on my fitness and weight loss. My PB for Parkrun is 19:54 from about 18 months ago. I'm now 10kg heavier and ran the same Parkrun this weekend (not my usual one) and got a 23:19. Amazing what a huge difference the weight gain has made.

Yeah, I'm taking it easy this week but by no means not doing anything!
Day off today, track interval session tomorrow night, day off on Wednesday, 5 mile run on Thursday night and then maybe do the Park Run at race pace on Saturday morning.
To maximize your race I would do the track session but either fewer reps or a slower pace. You can only get injured and this session will not help your race. it can keep you sharp but don't use too much energyDay off today, track interval session tomorrow night, day off on Wednesday, 5 mile run on Thursday night and then maybe do the Park Run at race pace on Saturday morning.
I would think about missing parkrun or jogging round with 4 x 100m strides. I would also hydrate on Thurs/Fri and Sat and not eat anything you are not used to eating.
Other pre-race things... Cut toenails 7-10 days in advance. get your bag ready on Friday night, plan race day and timings during the week etc
Good luck
Randomly decided to enter the Wilmslow half marathon coming up on Sunday. I haven't ran a race or anything remotely like that ever before.
Went out for a run yesterday and ended up with a huge arch blister. God knows how as I haven't had a blister from running since about 2018. Its like the world knew I was going to have a race.
Going to have today and tomorrow off, a slow and steady 8k-10k Wednesday and then probably a 5k Friday / Saturday just to keep the legs ticking over. Brutal hyrox training sesh Saturday before it aswell.
I think I can finish in 1:35 - 1:45.

Oh... and if you have your number, pin it to your shirt before you go to the race (Member of our club in 2005 left their London Marathon number on the bus...... which meant they could not run
Add to that if there's a fire alarm at the your hotel the morning of the race to make sure you take your number with you when you evacuate. Happened to me when I was running the Edinburgh marathon in 2016. I was pretty much ready and alarm went off. Didn't even think about my number. Had to run very quickly just to make it to the start line on time after we were let back in!A couple of personal targets achieved over the weekend. Sub 25 minute 5km at my local Parkrun on Saturday morning, which is a little bit undulating and then sub 2 hours Half Marathon at Liverpool yesterday. Liverpool was great, nice course and 9,000 runners. Would like to get a sub 4 hour 30 minutes Marathon in London next month and then a sub 50 minute 10km at some point, but they feel a fair way to be honest.
Colwyn Bay Metric Marathon on Sunday as my next long run marathon prep :-)
