Is it televised anywhere ?
Don't know if it's on tele, but it's on line, 0445 start, UK timehttp://www.runnersworld.com/2-hour-marathon/how-to...
Breaking2 Is really interesting to me. Particularly the shoes they are using. They are aero at the back. Super light, fully custom, new foam with more energy return.
They will be using Pacers to run in front to take the wind.
The car will be a Tesla since it's 0 Emmission.
I actually think they might do it. Maybe by up to as much as 10 seconds.

Latest update says car will go at 2:00 pace whatever the runners do, pacers running in arrowhead formation to shelter the main runners, mopeds to deliver drinks, pacers doing 4.8k shifts plus the magic shoes!

Scott Overall summed it up just how faster Kipchoge was going with his 5k splits: 14:14, 14:07, 14:13, 14:15, 14:14, 14:17, 14:17, 14:27! Enough to break the course record of almost any parkrun!
Only 10 parkruns have a course record sub 14:27 and only 4 sub 14:17.If I wasn't so tired 'cos of getting up to watch this I might have been inspired to go for a PB today!
Incredible run and it was different to what I thought. Given his capability, it was always likely he would be closest, but he clearly has trained well and it has shown that it will be possible. I still cannot imagine running 4:35 per mile... for 26.2 miles.... or even for 2 miles. Even a lap of the track at 68.75 seconds is tough
Question for the road marathoners:
I'm looking to incorporate weekly interval sessions rather than the fartlek or fast 5k's I tend to currently do as token speedwork. Main aim is to improve my road marathon time (though I've no plans to run one) to help with my overall time in off-road ultras.
Any recommended sessions? I've just put together an 8x400m, 200m recovery float workout on my watch with the 400m blocks being just above 5K pace, recovery 30-60s slower. Good place to start?
Should I look at ladders or pyramids?
I don't want to overcomplicate things, I'm just after a couple of sessions I can chuck on the watch and follow that are likely to have a positive impact on speed and bring me into sub 3:15 marathon territory.

A friend of mine has a brother who is taking part in an ultra marathon - 200 miles in 60 hours - needs his bumps feeling!!! I couldn't cycle 200 miles in 60 hours!

For the first time in a long time I thought I would have a crack at a fast 5k. I ran down to my local lake which also hosts the Melbourne Parkrun. It was a nice 3 k run down to warm up then had a crack at it. I ran the first 2 k's in about 4.18 then my shins just exploded in pain. I've never felt pain like it before and had to stop and hobble home. I think I just ran way past my sustainable limit and hopefully I haven't injured myself.

What burns me when I try that isn't my shins but the anterior tibialis muscle. I've been walking about on my heels and doing other exercises to try and strengthen them. My normal stride doesn't have a lot of roll from heel to forefoot so it doesn't get worked out as much, but when I lengthen my stride I really notice it egor110 said:
Ultra runner types -
i seem to have been talked into a 31 miler in july.
My longest run this year was 19 miles at the grizzly , the ultra is 10 extra miles but less climbing than the grizzly.
Spoke to a few at my club and they say the key is back to back runs so either sat/sun then a medium 6-9 miles tuesday and 5 miles on thursday.
Would dumping thursday but doing 5 extra on tuesday work ?
This is new territory for me but i'm a lazy sod and never push as hard as i can in races so maybe bigger distances are my thing rather than speed?
As per the previous reply, certainly push out to 25 miles so you can suss out what works for you in terms of eats/drinks/feet as much as anything. B2B is really useful if you can manage and slow long ascents to condition thighs are also good I've found. Pace accordingly of course, keep things at a steady level, and you shouldn't have too many problems. i seem to have been talked into a 31 miler in july.

I was sweeping a 32 miler yesterday and a lot were first time 26.2+ runners who all coped well (7-8 dropped out in total due to heat, but that's another story).

Tested 3 gels at 5 mile intervals and didn't st myself so that's all good

Some serious achievements going on there this weekend, in my head prior I always assumed they stopped an slept a few hours, seems in many cases it was 30 mins at most. https://www.hardmoors110.org.uk/hardmoors-200/

I'm hoping to try some of their short events later this year maybe starting with their half distance
