My OH has downloaded the C25K app. I am tremendously excited. Do I:

a) suggest we sign up for an ultramarathon immediately, get her to watch 100 hours of youtube videos on technique before lacing up her shoes and ensure she has at least seventy different sock/short/top combos of various eye-watering colours.

b) go over the top.

I may go with c) in fact. A hug and keeping quiet.

Mine did exactly the same this week.

I've gone for C and 'if you need anything, let me know'.

Has to be on her terms or it won't continue.

Do you go to a local parkrun as that is a good way to ease her into it.

For those wanting to know if they have a London place, apparently if you log in to the realbuzz registrations site and it shows a bib number then you have a place.

https://www.realbuzzregistrations.com/

I dont know anyone who has a place yet to confirm is this is actually true or not though smile
That's how I checked I had a ballot place a few years ago.

Got my Good For Age acceptance this morning. Will see after the Yorkshire Marathon this weekend whether I need London next year or not to go sub-3...

I missed out on London too. Got a decent enough training top out of it though, can’t remember paying for it (though I must’ve done).

I chuckled when I found out the chap featured on the front of the "You're In" magazine didn't actually get in for the 2018 race!

Apparently if you didn't pay up front then the online thing with the bib numbers doesn't count.

I still haven't got a magazine so there's still a chance then !

I dont see the point in paying up front as it makes no difference to your odds. You might as well flush the money down the toilet for all the difference it makes.

Unless they've changed it, that didn't hold true when I got in via the ballot. I've never paid up front, sharing KTF's sentiments, and the portal worked for me in 2014.

There are people with a charity i'm involved with who have had the your in mag yet online there's no number next to there name.

The common link is none of them paid up front .

I got my training top of disappointment. Iirc, you donated your entry fee and got a free top.

Eh? You've entered a race, you don't get a spot and they keep your money?

That's theft isn't it?

You are not entering a race. By agreeing to donate your fee you get an entry into the second lottery and a training top.

If you are successful then you have already paid the entry fee and no further payment is needed.

London Marathon website said:
Q. Can I have a refund for my bequest, as I was not successful in the ballot?
A. No, it is not possible to refund a bequeathed entry fee. You made the decision to opt to bequest your entry fee during the entry process and this meant you were entered in the Lucky Bequest second draw and a garment was ordered and made for you. The terms and conditions that you accepted during the entry process clearly state that no refunds are given.

So, sub-3 didn't quite happen this morning at the Yorkshire Marathon.

Went through halfway in 1:29:56 for perfect pacing, but began to drift into 7:05s for miles 22, 23 and 24.

Ultimately finished in 3:00:34 for a 2.5 minute PB. Over the moon and satisfied I did everything I could have today - sub-3 will have to wait for another year!

Now for the 3 hour drive home...

Well done.

That's the good thing about running there's always next year or next race.

Still a great time!

I had a chuckle to myself following the results as billy big balls from the running club i used to be a member of had been going on about how he was going to do a fantastic time. He capitulated and did 4hrs 25 mins. This gives me great satisfaction as its only 6 minutes faster than I managed a marathon in at the end of an ironman and I'm best part of 20 years older than him.

Also the wife at the same time was doing the Kielder Marathon which is very hilly in comparison and off the back of minimal training did a 4hrs and 16 seconds marathon.

I will probably be going to the pub later where I will hear a myriad of excuses from the marathon expert!

(I come across bitter on this post...sorry)

I've seen this week that TomTom have taken the decision to pull out of the wearables market. I wonder if Garmin and Fitbit will still be able to compete if the big boys like Apple and Samsung decide to muscle in with more focused sports offerings.
