My fellow runnning mate did the Lon Las Ultra across Wales a couple of weekends back!!

253 Miles non stop ultra....he finished 3rd in 83hrs i think! Absolutely unbelievable! I think the field started with 27 runners and only 6/7 finished..!

I'm stepping up to ultras next year and can't wait (although won't be doing anything like the above) haha!
Wow, looked that up, looks tough... their rules seem a little over the top too

If you want a easier ultra check out Albion running- ham to Lyme.

Somerset-Dorset area , nice seaside finish , 30 miles and reasonably flat.

I've got 2 races next year (multi day jobbies) with this in the Time Penalties section:

- requirement for a saline drip: 2 hours per drip

laugh

I've seen pics on a couple of the FB groups I follow of people having drips put in. Mental.

Jeez - you ran those times on 2 runs a week? (1 LR and one 7 miles?!) Well done, lots of potential in that case.
Hmm, I'm starting to think that! Been running for 6 years, so taken me a bit to knock the times down but yes, that's pretty much a normal week for me.

How do you guys find the time for a long run midweek - before/after work?

I would typically do it on a Thursday evening always knowing in my head I wasn't running on Friday.
Legs were usually quite tired after a hard speed workout/tempo on Tues and and an easy 6 miles on Weds.

Runs went from 10miles upto 13 but I was less focused on the distance and the time and more focussed on the workout. i.e. 1.5mile WU, 6 x 12mins @ 7:30/mile with 3mins jog inbetween, 1.5m CD.

To get a long mid week run I'd park 3ish miles from running club run in do the club run then back which seemed to work.

I dunno - that's quite a short rules list - keeps things simple when you have a field potentially spread out over 50+ miles. No sticks is a shame, but I wouldn't fancy that far on road anyway I don't think. I don;t have a 100 miles finish anyway, so am excluded from entering atm.

What time midweek - before or after dinner? I'm a bit sad in that I like my dinner at the same time each night, and a long run straight after work would just make me hungry and angry biggrin

Straight after work
Go home (1545-1600) and have a piece of bread and jam or some cliff cubes and a glass of water then go! Usually finished for 1800.

Ran the Water of Life Half Marathon on Sunday around Marlow. First trail type run which was interesting. Route very picturesque but tricky at the start due to single tracks, and windy sections along the river. Bit of an issue with the length of the course as they had to change the route last minute so ended up being half a km short. Not a huge issue for me as ran a close to PB time.

Really tempted now by the Marathon distance. Never been fitter at the moment, and dont mind training through the winter on the distance although its a huge step up in terms of miles per week.

Just need to choose one and book it. Looking at Edinburgh or even going further a field to Milan, Rome or maybe Madrid. Just need to go ahead and book it.

Damn-it - left the HRM at home for my lunch run. Normally I'd just go, but my first run back needs to be properly easy, so want the data. Sunny too - bet it's raining come home time.

Just done an 'easy' aerobic run for 90 minutes.

So boring and had to walk the hills.

Nice day though.

I've done Edinburgh before and am doing it again next year. The route has changed to see a bit more of the city, but after mile 5 you don't see Edinburgh again, and the finish isn't great IMO if you need to get back to the city - walk the best part of a mile, then join a queue for a bus back. Did that the first time, not great on tired legs. I'm staying near the finish on the Saturday night, then getting transport to the start in the morning.

Have a look at the Vienna marathon, same day as London. I'm doing it next year for the first time, there's something a bit special about doing a marathon abroad IMO - done Berlin and Amsterdam so far

Thanks. My coach has a couple of clients running the event so might head up with them, but just done a quick check and on costs and with entry and flights going abroad looks cheaper. :-)

Yup, it's a good one but very little support (if that bothers you) as it's a run alongside the loch on a quiet country road for most of the way. Done it 3 times, very pretty scenery.

The start can be a bit grim - you sit on an open hillside for the best part of an hour so wear an old jumper right until the start then chuck it away. The baggage lorries leave 45 mins or so before the start. Buses leave Inverness to take you to the start just after 7am, so you want a B&B that will do you an early breakfast on the Sunday - not all do, can thoroughly recommend Ardmeanach House for this.

You have to collect your number at registration on the Saturday, so you have to stay overnight in Inverness. Make sure you book dinner somewhere as it obviously ends up mega busy

Anyone bought anything online from Sweatshop recently? Any issues? I ordered a pair of shoes and 24 hours later they'll not past "order received", and that email came with the following delightful disclaimer:

This confirmation of receipt of order is subject to stock availability and does not constitute a binding contract. This email does not constitute or represent confirmation of the purchase.
This will be issued when your order has been processed by our warehouse team.

I'd be surprised if they didn't have the stock, given that's sort of the point of being able to query by size and brand on the site, but I've never seen a bold as brass "we'll take you cash, but we might not have what you want to buy" message.

Add to that I just discovered Sweatshop is majority owned by SportsDirect, a brand I actively avoid and I do rather worry I'm just on a road to frustration. Or am I spoiled by the likes of Amazon who can get parcels to my door in about seven seconds?

In other news, my HR wouldn't really go above 130 on my recovery/easy run last night. Some time to go yet before opening the taps, post half mara effort then!

I ordered a pair of the Nike Vaporfly 4% through Sweatshop, as I get 50% off via my Vitality membership. Within a day of it being due for dispatch, they cancelled the order citing the above and left me high and dry. Turns out they'd run out of my size, but the system accepted the order anyway. Absolute palaver trying to get my discount reinstated etc.

Through sheer dumb luck, it so happened that said pair of shoes are actually quite generous in size, so I was able to go 0.5 size down, to a pair they did have in stock, and finally got them.

Exactly what I feared, and expected. How fking hard is it to provide even average service? Cheers.
