First marathon at Edinburgh and managed to get a 3hr 56m which I’m really happy with. Target was sub 4 and just sneaked in. Really enjoyed the course, and plenty of great support along the way. Last 4 miles where a killer though and really struggled.

Lucky it remained quite cool during the race, which I think helped matters.

I did a leg of the relay marathon in Edinburgh, the support along the route was indeed totally awesome. It was such a nice atmosphere.

Thanks. Not sure I would do another marathon, but certainly up for focusing more on the half marathon distance and getting my PB down from 1.43 to close to 1.30 if possible.

There's a post on our work intranet trying to put together teams for the 12k "Mudmasters" obstacle race. Looks like they might be taking it a bit seriously though as they've arranged to do training sessions on a nearby army assault course at lunch times biggrin

I managed a PB at Edinburgh, got under 3:30 for the first time which was really satisfying after my last few marathons hadn't gone to plan for various reasons

My son is with me this week so I won't be out at all, and considering the weather and forecast, I'm not feeling too despondent

Inspired by a post about running a mile on the Parkrun thread, I went out last night and just ran a mile as fast as I could.
Annoyingly, Strava didn't pick it up as a mile as it still has my record from a while ago at 7:15, but TomTom says it was 1.02 miles at 6:41 so I'm saying it was a 6:40 mile! I'm happy with that, and it's a target to improve for the future.
Worryingly, a long term target of mine is a 20 minute 5k (can't be that long term as I'm 36 now...) and in the same run I got my 1k record at 3:59 so all I have to do is keep that pace up for another 16 minutes and I'll be golden...

I ran home last night and there was a pretty much continuous rumble of thunder for about 20 minutes. Never heard anything like it. Only started to rain right at the end though. Too sandy round here for much mud though.

I'm also very curious of your opinion after you've run a few times in them.

I've been running in Pegasus since the 28. Loved the 30, 31 and 32, but skipped the 33.

Jumped into the 34 and they were horrible, causing a touch of plantar fasciitis in my left foot that's never happened before with any other shoes, whether road, race, or trail. By adding the Zoom air bag below the forefoot, it stiffened the whole shoe up to change the Jack of all trades approach that the Pegasus was known for.

I have 2 pairs of the 32 purchased cheap from Nike factory outlets, waiting for a rainy day, though I know stock won't last forever...

I've got the 33's at the minute but tried a pair of the 35's on yesterday and they felt worldly different to me. So much softer and the transition between heel and toe felt very smooth and forward propelling. Will be making a purchase this week smile

That does not have to be worrying in terms of a target. I'm a good few years older than you and am still breaking PB's (some people say that my PB's were weak) but it's certainly possible. At any race, you'll see a lot of V40 men towards the top 10% of the field

You have plenty of time, so no need to be concerned at all. At 34, sub 20 would be an age grading of 66%. Most people* can reach 70% with some work. In fact 20 mins at age 45 is an age graded 71% - perfectly achievable.

  • i.e. regular runners who are not carrying excess weight

That vegan guy I know who has run 2.20 mara is mid-late thirties and only started running a few years back. He's won bushy parkrun about 70 times

Plenty of time to knock out sub 20, I'm 44 been running probably 3 years, ducked under 20 again this morning for first time this year.

Intervals and speed work are your friend to help you to sub 20. Good luck
